London to grind to a halt as first flakes of snow arrive
Run for the hills, buy stacks of bread and stock up on quinoa, London has experienced a few flakes of snow. The Arctic blast has arrived and while it’s business as usual across much of the rest of the country, the capital could be crippled by the conditions.

Britain gripped by freezing weather that could last for several weeks
Many commuters were forced to clear ice off their cars this morning as temperatures across the UK plummeted overnight. The mercury got as low as -6°C in Surrey last night, in Scotland it dipped to a very chilly -9.6°C and forecasters have warned that plunging temperatures and disruptive snow will continue.

Rail delays, flights cancellations, school closures, “treacherous driving conditions,” freezing weather, ice, sleet, snow and windy conditions in London.
31 Jan 2019 – Heavy snow is sweeping eastwards across the UK, disrupting travel and leaving around 100 drivers stuck on a major trunk road in Cornwall.
The freezing weather is moving across southern England and Wales, affecting Wiltshire, Hampshire, Sussex and Kent.
The Met Office has warned of “treacherous driving conditions” in some southern areas.
There are two yellow warnings in place for snow and ice for large parts of the UK until Friday afternoon.
Snow depths of 12cm (5in) have been recorded in Bodmin, Cornwall, the Met Office said. Parts of Cumbria have seen 8cm of snow, while there was 7cm recorded in Inverness-shire and 5cm in Powys.
Transport for London had advised commuters to try to finish their journeys by 21:00 GMT due to warnings of ice, sleet, snow and windy conditions
In Braemar, Aberdeenshire, the mercury dropped to -14.5C (6F) on Thursday evening, the lowest temperature in the UK since 2012 – when temperatures fell to -15.6C in Holbeach, Lincolnshire.

UK weather: Winds up to 70mph to batter Britain for four days
Britain is braced for four solid days of gales as winds of up to 70mph will batter the country, bringing with it rain and snow.
After the temperatures last week plummeted to a seven-year UK low of -15.4C in Scotland, there was a bit of let up over the weekend as the sun shone on parts of the country.

Gales down trees and cut power in Cornwall
Dozens of homes have been left without power and trees are down as gales sweep Cornwall.
Gusts of over 70mph were recorded overnight, with that wind warning out across rush-hour.
There was a big power cut in the Tintagel area in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Liverpool set to be hotter than TURKEY this weekend as 'tropical air' hikes temperatures
Liverpool is set to be hotter than TURKEY this weekend as temperatures hit double figures.
Yesterday saw the warmest Valentine’s Day since 1998 in the UK, with temperatures uncharacteristically high for this time of year.

Met Office expert about the chances of a February heatwave in Cornwall
National news websites have been reporting that a 'Sahara heatwave' is set to hit the UK in the next few days, with record temperatures making the country hotter than Australia.
They explained that temperatures will potentially be eight or ten degrees above average thanks to a flow of air from the Canary Islands.

That was interesting to see and also how the UK Met Office explained it so the media had no need to inflate their headlines.

The UK February record is not quite 20C. "Hotter than Australia" is a very strange thing to say (to be polite).
