In Bezenchuk, -6.3 degrees was recorded which broke the previous record set in 1978 by a whopping 2.5 degrees.
El'ton dipped to -1.7 degrees, enough to beat a 90 year old record.
-4.4 degrees was measured in Frolovo, beating the 1945 record.
In Dombarovsk, -8.2 smashed the former record of -4.9 set in 1998.
And in the village of Yekaterino-Nikolsky, the mercury plummeted to -8.3 degrees breaking the previous record of -6.1 degrees set 63 years ago.
The cold is forecast to push further north and east into central and southern Russia over the coming days.

North Africa and the Middle East are also experiencing anomalously frigid temperatures for the time of year.

Cold records broken in a number of Russian cities.

On July 14 in the city of Vytegra in the Vologda region, the temperature dropped to 0 °C !!! So the previous record more than 100 years old was broken! In 1912 here, the temperature dropped only to 1.9°C (35.4F).

In a number of cities in the past days, new minimum temperature records were also set:

The largest number of record low temperatures came in the Magadan region.

On July 24 in Susuman was -4.1°C, the previous record of -3.5°C was observed in 1973.

In Seimtchane was -2.9°C, which is lower than the previous record by 0.5 degrees set 28 years ago.

In Brokhovo, the new absolute low for July 24 is +4°C, which is lower than the previous record by 0.6 for 1973.

In Talon -1.4°C, the former absolute low of -0.6°C was observed in the 1973.

In Yakutia. July 24 in Tompo was -0.3 °C. The previous record low of 0.3 degrees was in 1977.

In Zyryanka, the thermometer fell to +2.7°C, lower than the previous record by 0.7 degrees in 1956.

On the eve of the Magadan region and to the east, northeast of Yakutia, there was an inflow of arctic air, and intensive cooling occurred.

1 August 2019 – Last night, in Syktyvkar, the temperature dropped to 3.0 degrees (the previous minimum of 3.3 degrees was noted in 1926).

The temperature minima in the cities of Rybinsk and Pereslavl-Zalessky of the Yaroslavl region respectively, were 6.7 and 6.2 degrees. The previous ones, in 1971, amounted to 8.0 degrees in Rybinsk and 7.0 in Pereslavl-Zalessky.

Record lows were observed in the Ryazan region. In the city of Elat’ma was 4.8 degrees, lower than the previous record from 1962.

In the Nizhny Novgorod region in Lukoyanov was 5.6 degrees, beating the previous record in 1962 of 5.8 degrees.

In the Chuvash city of Poretskoye in the morning it was 5.0; in Penza was 7, 4 degrees beating the previous record 8.3 degrees in 1962.

Record low temperatures were also observed in a number of cities in Udmurtia, Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk regions.

From the Baltic to the Urals and from the White Sea to the south of Black, the average daily temperatures in July and early August are 4–8 degrees lower than normal and more like the beginning of September.

On August 26 a new daily minimum temperature of -1.6 degrees was established on Kolguev Island, easily beating the previous record of 0.5 degrees set 36 years ago.

The weather in Chukotka and Kamchatka has noticeably deteriorated.

According to hmn.ru, “severe blizzards” and “sharp gusty winds” accompanied the brutal cold, with the Arctic conditions forecast to last for “some more time.”

On Feb. 6, the mercury in Chukotka plunged to as low as -50C (-58F) and beyond.

While in Kamchatka (known for its active volcanoes), readings of -40C (-40F) and below were observed.

The Sakha Republic, also known as Yakutia, has broken a myriad of low temperature records as winter continues to encroach into Spring 2020.

In the village of Talon, the mercury dropped to a nipple-hardening -30.7C (-23.3F), shattering the previous April record: the -27.3C (-17.1F) set in 1966 (solar minimum of cycle 19).
