At least 92 people have died in India's Bihar as the state remains in the midst of a punishing heatwave that's affecting much of the country, bringing with it droughts and hundreds of cases of heatstroke.

The country is experiencing its lowest rainfall before monsoon season in over six decades and is in its third week of a heatwave, set to become one of the longest on record.

https://www.sott.net/article/418343-175-killed-nearly-a-MILLION-left-homeless-by-landslides-floods-in-India-UPDATE

At least 95 people have been killed by monsoon flooding in southern and western India, while hundreds of thousands have been evacuated from their homes, according to reports.

More than 40 of those killed were in the south-western state of Kerala.

The flooding and landslides caused by the heavy seasonal rainfall have left some areas cut off.

Officials have called on those affected to try to seek shelter on higher ground.

India is affected by monsoon rains between June and September. While crucial to replenishing water supplies, the heavy rainfall also results in death and destruction each year.

https://www.sott.net/article/426418-Delhi-faces-second-coldest-December-in-100-years-as-northern-India-shivers-in-record-cold-spell

a wave of unusually cold weather is sweeping across large swathes of India, from remote Kashmir to Delhi, forcing people to seek shelter and light bonfires on the streets.

Delhi has been hit with what local media described as 'bone-chilling days' this week. In the early hours of Friday, the temperature dropped to almost four degrees Celsius (39.2 degrees Fahrenheit). This December is now on course to become the second coldest in terms of daytime temperatures the capital has seen since 1901, with December 1997 holding the top spot.

Indian state gets its first snowfall in 40 years
« Reply #6 on: January 10, 2020, 07:19:38 PM »
It may have taken a while—four decades as some reports claim—but it finally snowed in parts of Indian state of Nagaland last week, turning the region into a winter wonderland. The rolling green mountains and meadows in the districts of Zunheboto, Kiphire, Phek and Tuensang were blanketed in fresh powder due to a biting cold wave in northeast India.

Snow is uncommon in Nagaland. At this time of the year, the temperature usually drops to 10-11°C, but last week, the temperature dropped to 2-3°C. Several other parts of the northeast are also experiencing extreme cold conditions.

Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday was the most frigid city in the northeast on Monday at a temperature of 2.9°C. The conditions were similar in Imphal in Manipur, while Shillong reported a low of 5°C.

It’s not just the northeast. Delhi reported its lowest temperature last week in nearly six years at a temperature of 1.4°C.
