A strong earthquake has hit Mexico’s Pacific coast, shaking buildings and sending people running into the streets of the capital Mexico City as two further quakes struck off the US coast just hours after another rocked Indonesia.
The US Geological Survey said the 7.0-magnitude quake struck a sparsely populated mountainous area in the Mexican state of Michoacan about 5.55pm local time, shortly before 9am Australian east-coast time.
The large quake caused tall buildings to sway and people to evacuate their buildings in the capital, however there were no immediate reports of damage.
