Weather in Pakistan.
« on: December 08, 2024, 09:03:51 AM »
Biting cold has sunk its teeth into Pakistan, with Duki, Balochistan suffering a historic hailstorm, breaking a 42-year record. Snow has also amplified the chill across the region, resulting in significant damage to solar panels and trees.

Picturesque snowfall has transformed the likes of the Neelum Valley, blanketing Arang Kel and Upper Gres. Similarly, Kalam and Swat have been buried under heavy snow, with the mountains of Balakot and Kaghan Valley also coated, impacting daily life.

Temperatures have plummeted nationwide. Leh and Quetta logged the coldest lows on Monday, each posting -8C (17.6F). Skardu, Gupis, and Hunza also endured freezing lows, with Kalam barely dipping below at -1C (30.2F).

Extensive crop damage has been reported in some regions, adding to the challenges faced by local communities. In addition, Karachi continues to struggle with severe air pollution, registering an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 233—the worst in the nation.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts more snowfall in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and also Kashmir. The rest of the country will remain dry but very cold, with light fog expected in Punjab's plains and upper Sindh.

Islamabad, Pakistan lashed by freak hailstorm, city life disrupted
« Reply #1 on: April 20, 2025, 08:51:54 AM »
A sudden and intense hailstorm swept across the capital city yesterday causing significant damage to vehicles, trees, and infrastructure while transforming the city's landscape into an unexpected icy spectacle.

By mid-afternoon, thick clouds had gathered over the city, bringing with them high winds and a storm system that blanketed several sectors — including F-6, G-10, I-8 and Blue Area — in marble-sized hailstones. Within minutes, streets and rooftops were layered in ice, and visibility dropped drastically.

Moreover, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a renewed alert, warning that similar weather conditions could return in the coming days as seasonal patterns shift sharply.

Heavy hail, triggered by a sudden drop in temperature after an intense heatwave, fell across Islamabad and its adjoining areas, leaving roads, parks, and rooftops covered in ice. Social media was flooded with images of smashed car windows and hail the size of golf balls pelting the capital.

mmmmm
Routine life in Sialkot was completely paralyzed after the city received record-breaking 405 millimeters of rain in only 24 hours, forcing the authorities to announce that there would be a public holiday in the district today, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

The rain broke a 49-year-old record as last time it was on August 6, 1976 that the city had received 339.7 millimeters of rain.

On the other hand, dozens of villages in Gujrat risked getting inundated after the water level at Head Marala Barrage rose to an alarming level.

The water storage capacity of the barrage stands at 1100,000 cusecs, while the water flow at the barrage exceeded 900,000 cusecs.

The district administration urged the people to avoid stepping out of their homes unnecessarily.
