Heavy rain for northern and western parts of both Islands
A humid and unsettled northerly flow affects New Zealand until at least early next week, with several embedded fronts bringing rain to northern and western parts of both Islands. Warnings and Watches are in place.
The area that is likely to experience the longest period of heavy rain is the north of the South Island. For Tasman, Nelson and western Marlborough, there is high confidence that warning amounts of rain will fall during Friday and Saturday. There is moderate confidence that warnings will extend into Sunday and low confidence that there will still need to be a warning on Monday, especially in the west.
For Northland and North Taranaki, including Mount Taranaki, there is high confidence rainfall amounts will reach warning criteria on Friday, and low confidence that warnings will extend into Saturday.
For Horowhenua to Wellington including the Tararua Range, there is moderate confidence that warning amounts of rain will fall on Friday.
On Friday, there is low confidence that a heavy rainfall warning will be needed for Fiordland.
For Buller and Westland, there is low confidence that a rainfall warning will be needed on Saturday, increasing to moderate confidence of warning amounts of rain on Sunday and Monday.
