Doctors Fees Research
« on: April 04, 2012, 12:55:24 PM »
I have had a whisper that Doctor's fees are vastly different in different parts of NZ. I would love to have your feed back as to what you pay.
Oamaru and Timaru I pay $41.00 with NO discount for being a pensioner.
Have heard that up the north island $12.00 is the norm.
If you can help me I would appreciate it.
If the discreptentcy is too great in areas, I will be asking the govt Why?
Please help.
All correspondence is confidential.
If you don't want to put imformation on here, please email me. saragee@xtra.co.nz.
Thanks All.

Glenavy, South Canterbury.

I think you may find that it is not the Government that controls what the Doctors charge it is over to the Doctor
what he charges - unless of course for the children that is usually different and think that is subsidised.
It is a bit like going shopping you have a choice as to which one you go to.  If not happy shop around and compare prices.
I am  perfectly happy at paying $40.00 as he also has my history over many many years and knows any allergies to certain drugs etc. and therefore have complete faith in what he prescribes.
As you mention pensioner I think you can accumulate your receipts and then see WINZ for refunds. Don't know if that is still going or not as Mother used to do it.

I think you will find the region depicts what you are charged.
Up here and further north is classed as low income.
All doctors here and Gisborne charge much the same and the Govt top them up. This started a few years ago.
Prior to that we paid what you are paying now.

Same with education. Our schools are granted more than yours.

Yes you are the same as us and I think Te Puke & Tokorua are as well.
You are heavily subsided as we are.
