DENVER OBLITERATES ALL-TIME LOW TEMPERATURE RECORDS IN WEATHER BOOKS DATING BACK
«

October 28, 2020, 08:42:01 PM »
Denver has detailed weather books dating all the way back to 1872. One thing they reveal is that on each and every October day in those past 148 years, the thermometer has never failed to reach at least 18F… until yesterday, that is.
On Monday, October 26, the mercury struggled to a high of just 16F — a new record for the coldest October high temperature ever recorded in Denver.
Yesterday’s reading, of course, also toppled the previous daily Oct 26 record: in fact it obliterated it, almost halving 1923’s comparatively “balmy” 31F.

Early snowfall blankets much of northeast US.
30 Oct 2020 — Several inches of snow fell across much of the northeastern U.S. on Friday, accumulating on lawns, fouling roads and inspiring social media posts with a mock “snowpocalypse” theme.
The National Weather Service said Boston set an October snowfall record with 3.5 inches (8.89 cm), breaking the previous record of 1.1 inches (2.79 cm) set on Halloween in 2005.

The formation of Subtropical Storm Theta on November 10 over the northeastern Atlantic Ocean made the 2020 season the most active on the 169-year record.
NOAA scientists announced yesterday that, with less than a month remaining in this year's Atlantic hurricane season, the formation of Subtropical Storm Theta on November 10 over the northeastern Atlantic Ocean made the 2020 season the most active on the 169-year official record.
Theta - the 29th named storm of the Atlantic season - breaks the record for the highest number of tropical/subtropical storms in a single year. The previous record of 28 storms was set in 2005.

With the mountain snow season in the Cascades off to a robust start and with La Nina giving consistent signs it could become a strong event this winter, it might be a good time to revisit Mt. Baker’s world-record seasonal snowfall, writes meteorologist Scott Sistek.
Washington State’s Mt Baker area recorded an amazing 1,140 inches of snow some 22 years ago during the epic winter season of 1998-99.
When that world-snowfall record was set we were going into a la Nina like we are now, says Sistek, with NW snow pack now 200 – 400% above normal,

DENVER BREAKS NOVEMBER SNOWFALL RECORD
«
Reply #46 on:
November 27, 2020, 07:55:08 PM »
Denver just busted its first daily November snow record since 1994 (since the solar minimum of cycle 22).
Colorado’s latest snowstorm may now be wrapping up, but it certainly left its mark, gaining a spot in the history books.
Denver International Airport received 5 inches (12.7 cm) of snow on Tuesday, November 24 — a new daily record for the date, busting the old mark of 4 inches (10.2 cm) set back in 1946 (solar minimum of cycle 17).
❄️ RECORD DAILY SNOW ❄️
5.0” of #snow officially at DIA… breaks the old record of 4.0” from 1946.
Snow melted down to 0.44” liquid… also a daily record and Denver’s wettest day since Sep. 8#COwx pic.twitter.com/FeDTw2sxUu
— Ben Reppert (@WxReppert) November 24, 2020
Even more notably, and as touched on above, this was the first new daily November snow record in the city since 1994 (solar minimum of cycle 22).
Another rarity lies within the heavy and wet nature of the snow.
Colorado is accustomed to light and fluffy powder but Tuesday’s hefty blanketing, while great for making snowmen and snowballs, was difficult to shovel. However, the snow’s high water content will only prove beneficial for the state’s ongoing drought: the 5 inches at DIA melted down to just under a half of an inch of liquid, making it Denver’s fifth wettest day in all of 2020.

Biggest snowstorm in years set to slam Northeast USA.

First comes a smaller storm, but by Wednesday some cities may pick up more than a half-a-season’s-worth of snow in 24 hours. Up to a foot (30 cm) of snow – or even more – in parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine.
__________
Sun 13 Dec 2020 – Light to moderate snow is likely across portions of the central/southern High Plains today before entering the central Appalachians and Northeast on Monday, according to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland.
Around 3 to 6 inches of snow is possible from the Texas Panhandle across northern Oklahoma and into portions of southern Missouri and far northern Arkansas. In the Northeast, total snowfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible, with higher amounts across the central Appalachians.
However, a major winter storm is currently entering the Pacific Northwest bringing potentially heavy mountain snow today in Washington, Oregon and the Sierra Nevada. Eventually, the storm will traverse the entire United States, to finally wallop much of the densely populated Northeast.
By Wednesday, heavy snow will break out in northern Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, reaching Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City by early to mid afternoon.
Accumulating snow is likely along the I-95 corridor from Boston to New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington D.C.
The heaviest snowfall rates will start late Wednesday into Thursday morning, with 2 inches per hour piling up in spots.
New York City, Hartford, Providence and Boston are likely to be in the bullseye.
With forecasts calling for more than a foot of snow in many areas roads are likely to become hazardous, especially with high winds bringing near white-out conditions in some areas.

HISTORIC SNOW HITS TULSA, OKLAHOMA
«

— At least five inches of snow blanketed the Tulsa area on Sunday, accumulations the National Weather Service (NWS) have confirmed as record-breaking.
Forecasters had initially predicted 1-3 inches of snow for the Tulsa area, but on Sunday evening NWS Tulsa tweeted that 5+ inches had settled near the Tulsa International Airport, writing that this was “the heaviest snowfall in the past the past 7 years” (however, they only refer to the 4.2 inches from Dec. 6, 2013–the last time 5 inches was surpassed would have been even longer ago).
