Two people have been reported dead in Venice as the worst floods in more than 50 years brought the historic city ‘to its knees’. An elderly man from Pellestrina died after being electrocuted while the body of another was discovered in his home. More than 85 per cent of Venice was flooded after the high-water mark hit 74 inches late on Tuesday, two short of the highest ever level recorded during the infamous flood of 1966.
