New Zealand ShakeOut kicked off today in Wellington and will culminate in a nationwide quake drill on September 26.
Civil Defence Minister Chris Tremain said the campaign would run for six months on television, radio, social media and promotional activities throughout the country.
The Ministry of Education would support the September drill by encouraging all schools to participate.
''Ensuring that we are prepared will help us to get through any future earthquakes. I encourage all households to make an emergency plan, assemble a survival kit and identify safe places within the home,'' Tremain said.
"The campaign includes a website at
www.getthru.govt.nz. People can visit the website to get information on earthquakes, preparedness and the ShakeOut drill in September.''
The nationwide Drop, Cover and Hold earthquake drill will take place at 9.26am on September 26.
New Zealand ShakeOut aims to have one million people take part.
