TonyC: I see the British Polies are trying to restrict BBC on demand to TV licence holders!
ato2: Idiotic move on their part.
GrantK: @TonyC: I download a lot of BBC content using Get_iPlayer so am interested to hear of any developments in the restriction of content to TV Licence Holders. This was rumoured a few months back. Has there been any recent update?
TonyC: @GrantK: I do the same. So far everything still works though I had to change my VPN. I used to use PIA, but they got blocked by BBC. I haven't heard of any progress in the legislation.
TonyC: I enjoy the BBC4 European/Scandi dramas
TonyC: They are talking about a verification system, but It'll probably take them some time to find something that works.
ato2: @TonyC : me too, there are some great dramas
GrantK: If necessary, I have a relative who can buy me a licence but I can imagine that Get_iPlayer will be broken for quite some time while they try and find a workaround. It may be necessary to revert to using the official iPlayer website again for a while which would be a pain. Much prefer to download the files and play through my Roku4.
TonyC: If you have a relative with a licence that would probably be sufficient. I would imagine you would have to register with a UK address which would be linked to the TV licence database. I can't see anything happening anytime soon!
TonyC: Get_iplayer is a great amalgam of software tied together with No.8 wire. Very innovative!
TonyC: @Grant-Have you tried SBSripper?
GrantK: Yeah I did use SBSripper a couple of years ago to watch stuff on SBS Oz before I cottoned on to what was available with iPlayer. That pretty much provides all our viewing now with occasional extras from CuriosityStream and just 3 recorded programmes per week from Freeview.
