SkyTV Upgrade/Downgrade – Your comments please.
« on: April 11, 2016, 11:30:52 AM »
Those with Sky TV will notice advertising re the upgrade of all sky consoles in New Zealand.

All consoles are being replaced with new ones that are meant to be faster and have a clearer picture. These consoles may be connected to the internet via wifi allowing access to Sky On Demand. From here you may download movies, sports and TV seasons. Of course you need to be subscribed to the Movie and Sports Channels for the sports and movies.
Full TV seasons are available as with Game of Thrones. But most of what is available is fairly old. For example 5 Seasons of The Wire are available. This series ran from 2nd June 2002 to the 9th of March 2008……….   Need I say more here.

You also have the ability to record through this new wonderful console but that would cost you $15.00c per month !!!!!!

My new console was forced on me last week. I had no choice. Put in the new, take away the old or just take away the old!!!!

I am totally disappointed and angry. The HD channels are fine which are TV 1, 2, 3, 4 (Prime) 9 (The Zone), 501 (One Plus), 502 (Two Plus) and 503 (Three Plus).
Also Soho is HD if you subscribe. The Movies and Sports channels are HD if you subscribe.

The rest of the 60 odd channels are all NOT HD. The picture quality is rubbish compared to the old console. I rang Sky and they sent the Tech back around. He advised that was it, the best these new consoles could do….huh?

I rang Sky again and they offered me HD across all channels for $10.00 per month….huh?

I asked for my old console back. The picture through that was much clearer. They said no. Needless to say I am extremely angry with this upgrade/downgrade.

Has anyone else had the new console installed? If so what is the clarity like on all non HD channels compared to the old console. I am interested to gain feedback.

Cheers

We've had Mysky HD boxes for some years now at both Port Robinson and Christchurch City. In the original Port Rob contract we paid something like $500 for the unit up front. They later replaced it with the present unit and included free HD and it continues to this day because we have never let it lapse. In Christchurch we signed up 2 years ago for a deal through Vodafone which also gives us a free mysky box and HD. The present "upgrade" consists of just software and a connection to the internet which Sky will provide supporting hardware free of charge if required. Apart of a clunky menu system with poor font quality, the actual picture quality (HD or normal) appears to be the same.

I signed up as a beta-tester for a further software upgrade which was carried out last month on the Port Robinson unit. The font quality has improved markedly. Presumably all units will receive this upgrade eventually.

cheers

We have had My Sky for about three years. This unit we have now is the sixth one in the three years. The unit number five caught fire and when the tech guy called around he gave us a brand new box, apparently all the previous units we had were refurbished ones!!! The first four just stopped working. The font on this new system is small, my Husband asks me to read it. The picture does not seem to have changed. I like the on demand feature. I did notice if you download a series you only have a certain time to watch the episodes before Sky take it away. If you have not finished watching you have to download the episodes you missed. That I find is unnecessary and annoying. Over all happy enough.

NZ Herald
Sky TV tweaks its software after thousands of customer complaints

7:36 PM Monday Apr 11, 2016

Sky TV has updated its software again, making it easier to read after a previous software change in January led to thousands of complaints from customers.

The changes, which include tweaks to font size, darkness and colour contrast, will come into effect tomorrow, said Sky spokeswoman Kirsty Way.

In January, angry and frustrated clients took to the network's Facebook page to condemn the update as slow and causing the picture to lag. They said it had a small, difficult-to-read font.

One man's post garnered 16,000 "likes" within hours. Most of the more than 2500 comments written below his post agreed with him.

Stewart Bryan wrote: "Your new upgrade to MySky is awful - a real backwards step. Smaller font I can't read, terrible colours and so so SLOW to react."

The Herald was inundated with emails from readers with similar complaints after running a story about the issue earlier this year.

"We certainly took that feedback on board," Ms Way said.

The company had been "working away in the background" over the last couple of months on the changes rolling out tomorrow.

The new software update took into consideration customer complaints as well as research the company had done into what was and wasn't working overseas, Ms Way said.

Changes to the company's MySky software will be ongoing, with updates every coupe of months to make the user experience as easy and enjoyable as possible.

Several years ago :

Good evening Sky here we are offering Rialto

Ross: No thanks

Next week same time: Good evening Sky here we are offering Rialto

Ross: No thanks

Week three: Good evening Sky here we are offering Rialto

Ross: put me through to your manager,  certain words explained why we didn't want Rialto,  problem solved.

Week 4: Sky here you have been selected (I just loved that we had been selected, they were going to get us one way or another) to have My Sky for free no installation fee,  no monthly fee,  free My Sky forever and so it was till several months ago that we decided that Sky was rubbish and got rid of it. So now they dont ring us up and badger us into having programmes we dont watch, and do you know what, we havent missed Sky at all, we just enjoy watching DVD's (pays to have a bad memory that you cant remember the plot of the story in the DVD haha)

did you have the old non recordable silver box ?
i have an older mysky plus box.
when i was at a friends she was having her old silver sky box replaced with a new mysky box much smaller than mine.
i mentioned to the sky people about my sluggish old box since the updates and he said i could have it replaced with a new smaller one.
however i can live with a sluggish box more than bad picture
cheers
