A frontal system over the Tasman Sea is expected to move slowly east over New Zealand during Wednesday and Thursday. It is preceded by a strong, moist northerly flow that brings a period of heavy rain and gales to the north and west of both islands.
A heavy rain warning is in force for South Westland, and the Northwest Nelson Ranges.
This Watch is for the possibility of heavy rain in the following areas...
FIORDLAND north of Doubtful Sound from this afternoon (Tuesday) through to Wednesday morning.
The headwaters of the OTAGO and CANTERBURY lakes and rivers (close to the main divide) from this afternoon (Tuesday) through to late Wednesday morning or early afternoon.
BULLER Ranges and the remaining ranges of NELSON from tonight ( Tuesday) through to Wednesday evening.
COROMANDEL PENINSULA and western BAY OF PLENTY from Wednesday afternoon through to overnight Wednesday to Thursday.
This Watch is also for the possibility of northerly gales becoming severe for a time during Tuesday in FIORDLAND, and about coastal parts of BULLER and northern WESTLAND early Wednesday morning.
