and just to keep the symmetry, another one sided match
QF4 - New Zealand vs West Indies - 21 March at WellingtonSo
Baz McCullum won the toss and the
Black Caps were batting first.
Guptill was dropped off the 3rd ball, but a bit of a tough chance by the sounds of it.
He got most of the early strike & made a measured start, & Baz was out caught to a great catch by Holder in the 4th over for 12.
So . . game on.
Mean while Guppie kept on going, & going - a bit like the energizer bunny ?? Here's how he went . . .
50 off 64 balls, over 20
100 off 111 balls, over 35
150 off 135 balls, over 41
200 off 152 balls, over 48
237 at the close & not out to boot!! Wow !!
The first fact that stands out for me about his innings was this, 99% of his shots were clean normal cricket shots, played with great timing, none of the bludgeoning agricultural stuff that has crept into the game lately.
The second is that it was almost chanceless, there was a catch put down early, 1 LBW appeal I think & there was an incident about a double hit.
Other scores worth a mention,
Williamson 33 &
Taylor 42 & the Black Caps amassing 393 for 6.
In reply the
West Indies, lost wickets far too regularly which told in the end. All out in the 31st for 250.
Top score was
Gayle with 61 &
Holder managed 42.
Boult claimed 4 scalps &
Southee &
Vettori 2 each.
So, a cracking victory for the Black Caps, & the semi finalists have now been found.
Any takers for Sir Martin, or Lord Guppie ??
