Fine spells and a few showers. Thunderstorms and hail this afternoon.

Canterbury and Otago, apart from Clutha
Showers clearing overnight but returning this afternoon, chiefly inland, some thundery with hail. Snow above 500 metres.

Buller, Westland, Fiordland
Showers, some heavy with hail, clearing from northern Fiordland and southern Westland overnight but returning to the ranges this afternoon.

Southland, Clutha
Occasional showers, some heavy, with snow lowering to 500 metres. Showers easing this evening.

Chatham Islands
Rain clearing overnight then mainly fine.
