Heavy Rain Warning for Bay Of Plenty Rotorua
Issued 08:37am Saturday 12 Jul 2014
Bay of Plenty Rain is forecast to become heavy this afternoon. In the 12 hours from 3pm till 3am, but from 6pm east of Whakatane, expect 80 to 120mm of rain to accumulate. Peak intensities of 15 to 25 mm/hr, but possibly 30mm/h in thunderstorms. Please note that east of Whakatane heavy rain may continue well into Sunday, and this warning could be extended.

A front is expected to move slowly eastwards across Bay of Plenty this evening
and overnight with widespread heavy rain and possible thunderstorms.
The thunderstorms are most likely about eastern Bay of Plenty and Rotorua
(mainly from Te Puke and Rotorua city eastwards) after about 6pm , when a few
may severe producing localised downpours up to 30mm/hr.
Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially
about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also
lead to slips. Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding
and poor visibility in heavy rain.

Well, yes, we got a bit of weather, but all a bit hohum really!!
Rain set in after 6pm: 15mm total yesterday, max rate 21.6mm/hr at 19.09, 1 hr high 5.4mm.
Max Gust 33.1 at 21.40, NE dominant.

Thunderstorm arrived spot on midnight, got up for a spell to watch the show.
Very ordinary compared to similar recent events. (Ooooh MotoGP qualifying on the box  :D)
Rain: 20.7mm total so far today, max rate 46.8mm/hr at 01.33, 1 hr high 10.8mm at 02.07.
Max Gust 23.4 at 00.44, NE dominant.

Environt BoP rain gauge at Opo Wharf recorded 12mm yesterday, 26.5 so far today, intensity 5mm/hr.

Mild temps for this time of year.
Current conditions: calm, overcast earlier, clearing with increasing blue patches, sun trying hard.
