Update: Flooding in Australia March 2012

6th March 2012
-8000 people have been evacuated from Wagga Wagga (flood video aside)
-A major flood warning has been announced for the Queensland town of Gympie, north of the Sunshine Coast
-Emergency funding will be provided to the local government areas of Boorowa, Coolamon, Cooma-Monaro, Corowa, Gundagai, Forbes, Lockhart, Parkes, Snowy River, Tumut, Upper Lachlan, Wagga Wagga, Weddin and Young of NSW and Greater Shepparton, Greater Bendigo, Mount Alexander and Indigo areas of Victoria

7th March 2012
Flooding In Australia
-More than 600 people evacuated from Griffith, North Yenda and Beelbangera and about 1000 from Frobes. In Forbes, Lachlan River is expected to rise to major flood levels of 10.6 metres
-Residents in Gundagai, east of Wagga Wagga are allowed to return
-Prime Minister Julia Gillard will visit the flood-ravaged city of Wagga Wagga to assess damage

-Flood waters in the northern Victorian town of Nathalia forecast to peak overnight
-Sydney on ALERT with wild weather predicted



8th March 2012
-The Lachlan River system (Forbes), is expected to peak at about 10.65 metres today evening
-Roads Minister Duncan Gay said heavy rain and flash flooding in Sydney is one-in a-hundred-year event
-About 119mm of rain fell on parts of the CBD on Thursday morning
-Trains remain suspended on the Olympic Park Line between Lidcombe and Olympic Park
-Hundreds of boats on Sydney Harbour are in danger of sinking



9th March 2012
-Four houses in Nathalia's east have been flooded
-The SES has warned Narrandera to prepare for evacuation from 9.30am
-The Murrumbidgee River is due to peak at 9 metres this afternoon. Yesterday Lachlan River system (Forbes) peaked 10.65 metres
-About 300,000 sandbags have been distributed in NSW
Updated 1.00am 10th March
More than 150 Nathalia residents have evacuated after warnings the Vic town's levee system may not hold.

10th March 2012

-Two more bodies found today in floodwaters in the western NSW town of Bourke
-One thousand people have been told to leave their homes ahead of an expected flood peak tomorrow in NSW
-The water is decreasing slowly in Nathalia
-Boats and sightseers are being urged to stay away to avoid putting extra pressure on the flood barriers
-Moderate flood levels continue in the Paroo, Georgina and Diamantina catchments and minor flood levels will continue along the Bulloo River at Thargomindah for most of the coming week. Minor flood levels are occurring at Stonehenge along the Thomson River.
-Flood warning is issued for Georgina, Diamantina, Paroo and Bulloo Catchments
-Murrumbidgee River to peak near 7.7 metres
-Residents in Darlington, NSW, told to get out now

12th March 2012
-Army troops have moved from Nathalia to Barmah to isolate the properties at the risk of flooding
-According to government officials in Australia, evacuation order for Nathalia may be lifted on Wednesday afternoon
-Now, flows from the Murray, Murrumbidgee and Darling Rivers are not expected to cause any flooding or access problems to towns along the Murray River. River heights at other forecast locations along the Murray River, such as Swan Hill, Robinvale, Echuca, Euston, and Wentworth, are expected to remain below their respective minor flood levels based upon current river flow projections.
-Recently 1000 residents in Darlington Point were told to evacuate as water levels on the Murrumbidgee River rose
-Russell River: Minor flood levels possible during Monday morning at Clyde Road. At 7:30am Monday morning river levels were about 0.2 metres above the Russell River bridge deck

Update 14th March 2012:
NSW - Moderate Flooding Is Still Current At Jemalong Weir. The Lachlan River At Forbes Was 9.3 Metres And Falling On Wednesday Morning With Minor Flooding.
- Moderate Flooding Continues At Fords Bridge Bywash Where The River Was 2.89 Metres And Falling At 9Am Wednesday.
- Major Flooding Continues Along The Culgoa River At Kenebree While Moderate Flooding Continues Along The Bokhara River At Goodwins. River Levels Are Falling Slowly
- The Murrumbidgee River Flood Peak Is Expected At To Arrive At Carrathool During Thursday Night.

QLD - Rainfall Totals Of Up To 172Mm Have Been Recorded In The Russell River Catchment Since 9Am Tuesday. Further Rain Is Forecast During Wednesday Within The Warning Area, With Moderate To Heavy Falls
