A gentle westerly airflow lies over New Zealand today with a large anticyclone centred north of New Zealand. Expect easterly winds to pick up in eastern regions of both islands this afternoon. A few showers affect the West Coast of the South Island, a few isolated showers may affect coastal Otago and eastern parts of the North Island in the afternoon / evening. Elsewhere looks to see sunnier weather.

Auckland & Northland
Sunny spells and some cloud with west to southwesterly breezes. Low risk of a brief shower now and then otherwise mainly dry.
High: 17-19

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Sunny spells and some cloud with westerly breezes, skies mostly sunny about the Bay Of Plenty. There is the risk of an isolated shower about southern parts of the Central North Island in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-19

Eastern North Island
Sunny spells with northeasterlies developing during the morning, about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne a few showers develop during the aftenoon especially about the ranges then clearing later in the evening with southwesterlies. Wairarapa stays mainly sunny during the day with westerlies, northeasterly breezes possible right on the coast.

Western North Island - Taranaki
Sunny spells with westerly winds, chance of a shower later in the evening.
High: 15

Western North Island - South of Taranaki
Mostly sunny with northwesterlies tending more westerly in the afternoon. Cloud a little more frequent after midday but sunny spells still about.
High: 16

Wellington
Sunny with northerlies, a little breezy in the afternoon.
High: 16

Nelson
Sunny with light winds tending northerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-17

Marlborough
Sunny with northerly winds a little breezy in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-19

Canterbury
Sunny with easterlies become brisk in the afternoon near the coast, light winds inland for much of the day. A few afternoon clouds about the south and mid Canterbury foothills.
Highs: 15-17

West Coast
Showers about Fiordland and South Westland with westerly winds. Morning sunny areas further north with light winds, in the afternoon some cloud increases with the chance of the odd light shower as winds tend westerly.
Highs: 14-15

Coastal Otago
Mostly sunny with northeasterly breezes, late afternoon and early evening there is the chance of an isolated shower or two.
High: 16

Southland & Central Otago
Sunny with some high cloud, west to northwesterly breezes.
Highs: 15-16
