Puno: Ten missing and 15 000 llamas killed by snow

A tragic situation exists in the province of Carabaya in Puno where they have gone for at least ten people and more than 15 thousand llamas have died by heavy snowfall of nearly three feet thick, the mayor of this city, Ronald Gutierrez.

The mayor noted that despite the chaotic state of the province, there is no regional government's response and requested an airlift to bring aid to the most remote places.

In RPP News, said that on Monday August 26 gave him personally Agriculture Minister Milton Von Hesse, an order of emergency declaration.

He also reported that over 1,500 alpacas and llamas were killed and 40 families were affected by the presence of snow that have reached two meters in the district of Sina, San Antonio de Putina Province in Puno.

Reaffirmed its request to the head of the Cabinet, Juan Jimenez and the Army for immediate implementation that enables airlift of aid supplies..

Since early this month, several provinces of Puno have withstood temperatures up to 15 degrees below zero , with days of hail and snow , in places where the population is engaged in the field and raising vicuna, alpacas and llamas.

The head of state will return on Wednesday to Puno with several state ministers to oversee the relief effort and attention to victims , who will be in charge of the respective municipalities and the National Institute of Civil Defense .

The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology ( SENAMHI ) noted that this week will drop more rain , hail and snow in the upper and middle regions of Puno , Cuzco , Arequipa , Huancavelica and Moquegua , all in the south.
