An anticyclone pushes onto the South Island today while a low pressure system lies just to the north of the North Island. The anticyclone in the south brings settled weather while the low in the north directs a southeasterly airflow over the island. Showers in western areas generally clear this morning, the east coast can expect showers.

Auckland & Northland
Morning showers, more so about Northland clearing. A few sunny spells developing in the afternoon. Brisk south to southeasterly winds.
High: 14

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Some early cloud clears to a mostly sunny day, breezy to brisk southeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-16

Eastern North Island
Cloudy with the odd shower and breezy cool southerlies. Wairarapa may only see a morning shower then mainly dry for the rest of the day.
Highs: 12-13

Northern Taranaki
Mostly sunny from morning, strong gusty southeasterlies ease at night.
Highs: 13-14

Western North Island south of northern Taranaki
Cloudy periods in the morning with the chance of a shower now and then, sunny spells develop later in the afternoon. Breezy southeasterlies.
High: 12

Wellington
A few morning showers clear, fairly cloudy for much of the day however a few clear spells develop in the evening. Brisk southerlies.
Highs: 11-12

Nelson
Sunny with southerly breezes, easing in the evening.
Highs: 13-14

Marlborough
Mostly sunny with cool southerlies, easing at night.
High: 13

Canterbury
Chance of an early shower about the hills and ranges of North Canterbury then becoming mostly sunny with southerly breezes easing and dying out by evening. Mostly sunny elsewhere with any early cloud clearing, southerlies once again dying out by evening.
Highs: 11-13

West Coast
Sunny with light winds, cold morning and night.
High: 15

Central Otago
Sunny with light winds after a frosty start.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Coastal Otago
Mostly sunny after morning cloud clears, light winds.
High: 12-13

A low east of Northland continues to move further away from the country.
Heavy rain in northern Hawkes Bay and Gisborne has eased and the warning is lifted. However, periods of rain are likely through much of today (Friday) and there may be isolated heavy falls about high ground.
