Copied from The Press: South Islanders have been left shivering as autumn's arrival brought chilly temperatures to the region.    Cantabrians experienced strong winds, heavy rain and cool temperatures but were spared the full force of the destructive weather bomb event that caused mayhem in Taranaki yesterday.The Waipara Valley Wine and Food Festival and the Sand Art Project on New Brighton beach were among the weekend's events that were cancelled due to the weather. MetService was forecasting a cloudy day for Canterbury today, with southerly winds expected to die out later this evening. Today's high in Christchurch is expected to be 16 degrees Celsius, with an overnight low of 6 degrees.

That will be the 3rd snowfall this year Suezy.

I know Mark but wonder what we will be in for this time round.  Hope we don't follow overseas but not holding breath.  With the last snow storm we had - lost all my little just forming  grapefruit but noticed the other day that it had all small ones on it again - hope they get the chance to progress further.
Am ordering snow chains though just in case and got a CRV a few months back owing to other car too low to the ground as have been caught before in a good snowstorm our here in that.
But heres hoping we don't need either.

Snow has fallen on Mt Taranaki, the second time in a few days...yesterday's dumping is down to around 4,500 feet, I would estimate. It is quite thick, like Winter. That high level ski field at 6,000 feet might be promising! 

Only a couple of weeks ago the mountain had next to nothing on it, about what one would expect into Autumn.

What other falls have people noticed?

Hi Tom - good to see you but we can't see the mountains at the moment owing to the low cloud which we have had for months - or it seems that way anyway.
Looking forward to seeing them as can see them from here to see how much we have on them - a bit early in the peace though.
One year we had snow a couple of days before Christmas but that was years ago.
Either it is Autumn which it has been for months now  - no summer here really - or we could be in for a good early winter.
Have put a big log burner in that you are only allowed on land of over 2 1/2 hectare and boy does it get hot - have it also going to other rooms and one is my computer room and it has been really hot in here and had to turn the switch off - either that or strip off.  Very very effective indeed.

Today the 13th April.
A bit of snow up on the mt yesterday we will have to see if it stays.

Mt Taranaki looks utterly devoid of snow on the northern side.
