The climate in the Cape province is considered subtropical, where  snow and hail covered the Capetown marina and at some places the coast was covered with frozen icelast night. In the winter in the southern hemisphere which extends from May-end to September, Capetown usually witnesses cold rain and hurricanes from Atlantic, but temperature rarely drops below +10 degree Celsius. This time it dropped to 0 degree C. Drivers have been advised to refrain from traveling across mountain passes. Capetown Mayor Patricia de Lille has announced a state of emergency in the city.
