Our local Station’s weather in Brief May 2013

New Zealand Weather across our Local Stations in brief for May 2013. Links are underneath for the full data summaries.

The East Coast of the North Island was the place to be in May gaining the highest temperatures for most days. The Bay of Plenty was close behind while the West Coast of the South Island dropped below zero towards the end of the month. Castle Hill, Arthur’s Pass, Reefton, Bishopdale, West Eyreton and Te Anau all experienced the coldest nights dropping below -3.0°C

By far the windiest area was the West Coast of the top of the North Island with Dargaville and Awhitu well over 100km/hr with a gust of 129.6km/h and 115.9km/h respectively. Arthur’s Pass and also Oban, Stewart Island also cleared the 100km/hr mark with 106.2 and 104.1.

The most rain fell across Auckland, North Auckland and Northland with 9 stations receiving over 200mm for the month.  Belmont followed by Red Beach accumulated the most rain days with Belmont suffering a rainfall total of 0.4mm or more  for 29 days out of 31.
