Are you under pressure or perhaps a little OTT ?
« on: March 23, 2013, 09:49:54 AM »
(or is it just the beteljuice)

Yesterday the beteljuice put a link in the Shout Box, which was meant to be of immediate assistance to forum members.

The beteljuice said it was temporary, and part of a much larger 'proof of concept'.

What does it do - It allows you to view current pressure and rain, and pressure and temperature range so far 'today' for either 25km range of a chosen locale OR all stations currently reporting.

Please note (with the exception of rain which you all seem to be preoccupied atm) these are the very things that a significant number of people in terms of pressure have either set up to absoloute or are simply not calibrated correctly, and in the case of temperature range have problems with sensor shielding.

The graph created shows these anomalies very clearly, especially when used with 25km locale search.

Was this the greatest thing since sliced bread ....

Apparently not - It seems to have put Cuba in the shade !!!

So, byway of expanded explanation ....

For those that are not aware of the beteljuices pedigree and integrity, let's just say I've been around several years and are known to several 'serious' codesters and high profile forums (not always under the beteljuice persona)

What am I doing - experimenting (as ever) with different ways of processing / presenting member data, including but not limited to regional selection (which easily could be done by eg. google map 'zoom') automatic flagging of suspect data, comparrison graphs etc. etc.

The target audience is this forum and its members ONLY, any data and code specifically related to the forum and its members are 'For My Eyes Only' or if adopted in whatever form, under the control of forum admin.

The test page is TEMPORARY, shall we say 48hrs ? - after which the page and it's support code will disappear.

A considerable amount of time was spent trying to make station locations realistic (some of you were in the sea and some had four diffent sets of coords accross diferent sites they 'donate' data to) this was unecessary for 'proof of concept' but essential for a meaningful real world experience for you to play with.

As a courtesy / acknowledgement where known station weather page links are included.

It contained very limited 'current' data and nothing furher could be 'mined' from the page or the code contained in it.

So at the risk of censorship and having my knuckles severely rapped.

EDIT: Link removed by beteljuice due to polital unrest  :'(

EDIT: The beteljuice is soley responsible for his actions.

Your comments are welcome.

The beteljuice will now take a large pace backward and consider his future involvement in such things.
