North Island, mainly fine, but cloud increasing from Taranaki to Wellington. South Island, rain spreading up the west coast, mainly fine with high cloud in the east.

Wednesday
North Island, northwesterlies becoming strong and gusty over the lower North Island, gale about Wellington and Wairarapa.Mostly fine but some late rain in Kapiti and Wellington. South Island,rain in the west, with heavy falls, and scattered rain further east,easing south of about Westport to Christchurch to scattered showers.Gale northwesterlies from Otago northwards, easing in the south later.

Thursday
North Island, rain or showers in the west spreading north to Waitomo, scattered falls in Wairarapa. Mostly fine elsewhere. Gale northwesterlies in the south easing. South Island, remaining areas of rain in the north easing to showers and a few showers elsewhere.

Friday
North Island, remaining showers in the southwest clearing and then fine apart from afternoon showers in Northland. South Island, a few showers in the west and far south, otherwise mostly fine. Chatham Islands

Chatham Islands
Rain at times on Tuesday, clearing on Wednesday but remaining rather cloudy. Westerlies developing Monday night, tending northerly and strengthening on Wednesday. Cloudy with easterlies, turning westerly on Monday with rain. Mainly fine through to Thursday.

The weather tomorrow will be influenced by a westerly airflow. In the North Island conditions are expected to remain mostly dry however from midday the odd shower may appear in the west from Wellington through to Taranaki.

Mostly cloudy skies with some sunshine is on the cards for the rest of the North Island in the west. The Bay Of Plenty will experience longer sunny spells and in the east from Hawkes Bay through to Gisborne sunny conditions can be expected. The Wairarapa will likely see some cloud and the chance of a brief shower in the afternoon as westerlies freshen for a time.

In the South Island sunny conditions are expected out east although there may be a brief early morning shower about Canterbury any of which will clear. Northeasterly breezes will pick up a little in the afternoon from the Otago coastline right through to Marlborough.

The West Coast of the South Island and Southland will see showers finally clearing early afternoon with breezy west to southwest winds, the reprieve from the wet weather will only be short lasting on the West Coast as northwesterlies and rain builds there overnight.
