Warm - been like it all day - doesn't look like it's going to change much!

Currently 27C here 65% humidity which is the lowest we've seen for a few days. Little wind 8-10kph. Typical Wellington day really!

There's usually a temp differential between here and the Hutt Valley of about 2C so I wouldn't be surprised if the valley starts nudging 30C before too long

Bit of cloud over the Tararuas suspect Lake Wairarapa and up that way got a bit of fog this morning

Have a great xmas everyone
Cheers, Andrew

Merry Xmas!

Rather on the warm side in Invercargill today, Although it seems to depend on what part of town your in. Currently 28.6c 40%hum and blue sunny skies with only a light breeze where we are in the Northern suburbs. The southern suburbs and Airport are 3 or 4c cooler with a bit of a sea breeze starting to kick in.

Observation for 25th December 2012:
Our third very warm, humid and wet day in a row, at one stage the Humidex reading from my Station was above 33.0c, it was still 25.5c at Midnight.  The wind direction has backed up even more today and is now a Nor Easterly.  On and off rain showers or longer periods of rain but most of the rain fell during the night and early daytime hours, however we had a five minute dump this evening that registered 2.5mm, the water tank continues to fill . . . slowly.  Some dry road surfaces in places as we journeyed to Pyes Pa and then out to Te Puke this afternoon then back to Tauranga this evening but I don’t think we actually saw the Sun all day today.

Current Recordings 23:58
Temp: 19.0c Going Down, Humidity997%, Rain: 21.9mm, Average Wind Speed (10 Mins) 10km/h NE, Pressure 1013.6 hPa and Rising.

Christmas Day national forecast
« Reply #16 on: December 28, 2012, 09:12:53 PM »
Posted by wwadmin on Tue, 25/12/2012 - 05:58

With the remnants of Evan continuing to slide out to over the Tasman, our atmosphere will continue to be unstable. Look for more scattered precipitation about the North Island today, but drier conditions expected for much of the South Island.

Upper North Island

Mainly cloudy and breezy with scattered showers. Some dry periods with patches of sun are likely. Muggy. High 26-28

Lower North Island

Mainly cloudy except in the far south and east where a mix of sun and clouds is expected. Breezy with scattered showers. Muggy. High 24-27

Upper South Island

A mix of sun and clouds. A few scattered showers are possible tonight. High 24-27

Lower South Island

A mix of sun and clouds. High 22-26

Christmas weather around New Zealand
« Reply #17 on: December 28, 2012, 09:32:16 PM »
Posted by wwadmin on Tue, 25/12/2012 - 13:58

Merry Christmas to you. We here at WeatherWatch are hoping you’re enjoying your day and wish you happy and safe New Year.

This Christmas has been a warm and sticky one for many areas. Air temperatures combined with the persistent mugginess can make things a wee bit uncomfortable.

Here in the Waikato, we’ve seen on and off sunshine. Right now temperatures are in the mid 20s. But with the muggy conditions and that strong December sunshine, it feels closer to 30.

Reports from around the lower North Island have also talked about some sunny and warm conditions today. Ian Phillips in Wellington called it “a stunner” today.

Andrew Blair in Levin reported at temperature of 27.4 at around 10:30am. He also said the relative humidity was 57%. That’s pretty muggy. By the way, for you dew point fans, that’s a dew point of about 18.

There was rain to be found around New Zealand too.

Lace Griffiths said it was raining, very windy and cold in Tauranga this morning.

Ron Cribb reported rain in West Auckland this morning.

Janine Gray said the thunder was rumbling in Bulls with a temperature that had already cleared the 30 degree mark.

Temperatures in the main city centres this afternoon included 28 in Hamilton, 26 in Dunedin, 21 in Christchurch, 21 in Auckland, 21 in Tauranga and 21 in Wellington.

Severe Weather Update
« Reply #18 on: December 28, 2012, 09:42:26 PM »
Posted by wwadmin on Tue, 25/12/2012 - 17:00

Thunderstorms have been trying to re-fire late this afternoon about central New Zealand. One cell in particular prompted government forecaster MetService to issue two Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. One for the Palmerston North area and one for Carterton and South Wairarapa area.

The threat for thunderstorms will continue about central New Zealand tonight. Specifically along the coastal regions from Taranaki to the Kapiti Coast to Wellington.

Another risk area is about the north-western part of the South Island including Nelson and Westland.

MetService has also identified these areas has having the right conditions for the development of severe weather. For that reason, they have issued Severe Thunderstorm Watches for these areas. The North Island watch includes Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Taihape, Wanganui, Manawatu, Tararua, Kapiti-Horowhenua, Wairarapa and Wellington.

The South Island watch includes Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Westland and the Canterbury High Country.

Both watches are in effect until 8:30pm.

There is also a risk for thunderstorm activity across central New Zealand tomorrow.

However, there is a much higher risk for heavy rain across much of the North Island and the upper South Island. No rain warnings are in effect at this time, but this situation will be monitored carefully.
