NE China Snowstorms May Be Worst in 50 Years

Snowfall 20 inches (50 cm) deep in Heilongjiang Province.
 
Heavy snowstorms in northeast China have caused major disruptions in what some say is the worst snowstorm to hit the area in 50 years.
 
Thousands of households lost power in Heilongjiang Province on Sunday due to power lines being crushed under heavy snowfall.
 
In the country, farmers say the snow has affected their crop harvest.
 

“When we were planting crops, it was dry, but then it started to rain and the soil was too wet,” said Heilongjiang resident Ms. Hao.  “Fall was also very wet, which made planting difficult. There are a lot of crops still to be harvested. Most farmers here are like mine. This has been a difficult year with a lot of natural disasters.”
 
Snowfall in the area was 20 inches deep by Tuesday morning, causing main expressways to be closed.
 
Inner Mongolia was also affected by the snow with road, school, and two airport closures in the eastern part of the region.
 
More snowstorms are predicted for parts of Northeast China, eastern Inner Mongolia, and the Xinjiang Autonomous Region through Friday.

Thanks for that Mark - looks like the crops will be in short supply in the country too and very expensive what ever has survived..  Seems bad news in many countries now.
