Current Observation: Fine with a light ESE breeze. The veil of high cloud that rolled in Sunday afternoon is slowly giving way to more solid cloud in anticipation of Mondays Front & Depression. An almost full Moon is barely visible through the cloud.

After an O/N low of 11.2ºC, it has reached a peak of 21.9ºC - the hottest day this season yet.  Lovely!!
Winds have been ESE 8-20km/hr gusting to 30km/hr.  Now tending further around to south-east and wind speed dropping.  Lovely blue sky with passing scattered clouds.

This has really improved since the overcast morning with light rain before 6am.

Current Observation: Fine and quite warm. This mornings front was a bit of a non event and was well gone by lunch time. A quite warm (Shorts and T Shirt warm) and cloudy at times afternoon followed. An almost full Moon is poking through broken cloud but there are some quite large areas of solid but non threatening cloud.

Upper North Island
 
Expect showers today north of the Waikato heavy at times in Northland from afternoon with east to southeast winds, showers clear later in the afternoon about Auckland and further north overnight. For the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty expect cloudy areas with sunny breaks developing during the morning, there is the chance of a remaining morning shower. Cloudy periods with southeasterly breezes in Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, a few showers possible mainly in the ranges.
 HIGHS: Low 20’s out west, 19-20 in the Bay Of Plenty. 17-18 in Auckland and Northland. Mid teen temperatures about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.

Lower North Island
 
Sunny areas and some cloud for Taranaki through to Wellington, also the Central North Island with southeasterly breezes strong about the Taranaki coastline for a time late afternoon and evening. Cloudy areas in Wairarapa however sunny breaks developing in the afternoon
 HIGHS: Low 20’s out west, 17-19 in Wellington, Wairarapa and the Central North Island.
 
Upper South Island
 
Mostly sunny today about North Westland and Canterbury northwards, chance of some cloud at times mainly in eastern coastal areas this morning. Expect east to northeast breezes on the east coast and southwesterlies on the west coast.
 HIGHS' 16-18 in the west and east, possibly early 20’s in sheltered inland parts of Buller and Nelson.
 
Lower South Island
 
Chance of a few morning showers in Southland and Otago any of which clear, sunny areas develop during the morning. Expect light winds tending westerly, westerlies about the Southland coast will be a bit breezy. Sunny in South Westland with southwesterly breezes, winds tending a little more westerly in Fiordland with cloudy areas and the odd light shower at times in the south.
 HIGHS: 14-16 about Fiordland and South Westland respectively, 17-19 in the south and east (Higher temperatures out east), early 20’s in Central Otago.

There are some bumps and bruises along the away but a few days this week look mostly settled and it's not been often that we've been able to say that lately.
 
Yep there's a hiccup today with some rain over the northern half of the North Island but in the main until Friday more than 75% of the nation looks in the clear or in just a few clouds!
 
There always a rogue shower or drizzle patch forming somewhere but tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday there shouldn't be too many about if at all.
 
The weekend was warmest over eastern and northern parts of the North Island with Gisborne sizzling with 27 degrees on Saturday and then backed it up yesterday with 24.Today appears to be a little cooler with the risk of some drizzle or a shower.
 
A few heavy and thundery showers packed a punch across Dunedin on Saturday but not many developed further north and it was a mostly dry southerly change over eastern parts of the Mainland during the weekend.
 
"We're not quite out of the woods yet but hopefully the fronts that have been racing by recently might be on a bit of a slow down" according to weather analyst Richard Green." For once this week we could have a couple or even three days where we're not chasing our tails with nor' west winds and then southerly changes especially over the lower two thirds of the country" he says.
 
Aucklanders today might see liquid sunshine but an improvement later is on the cards and then a much brighter week until Friday.
 
The end of the week doesn't paint a particular rosy picture for much of the nation as a system spreads over much of the country delivering cloudy, breezy and wet conditions but once again the east of the North Island should escape the worst of the weather leading into the weekend.
 
Today we think the nicest weather is going to be in Geraldine, inland South Canterbury with blue skies and just a very light easterly expected andthe temperature nudging 20 degrees.
