MetService too slow, rival claims

State company says its first alert on weekend storm was issued last Tuesday.

Independent weatherman Philip Duncan has hit out at the country's official forecaster, claiming the MetService was too slow issuing a severe weather warning for Auckland at the weekend.....

the warning that was eventualy issued was too late for western waikato/auckland area
but would have given a heads up for eastern coromandel area, that got the period of severe gales a coupld of hours after they went through the western side
