Blue skies wall to wall, a cool 5 degrees, a light dew on the ground and vehicles

Beautiful blue-dome morning in the Bay. Current temp 7.8 C. Overnight minimum went down to a slight air-frost of -0.4 C as skies cleared around 0200, and the grass min went down to -1.9 C. Calm and clear now. Fresh snow noted on the inland foothills, which appears to be right down to around 300 metres or so...

The-weather today here-in Bishopdale has been nice and sunny.
We've had a northeast wind gusting up to 39.9 kilometres per hour.
That was after we had the coldest September night for five years.
Which was the second coldest September night-temperature since 1990.
The minimum temperature last night was -4.7 c.
The air temperature now has 10.7 c.

The weather is fairly settled across the country today, although it isn’t very warm with many places experiencing quite frosty conditions last night. Parts of Auckland got down to –1, the Waikato –1 also but some –2 degree readings. The Central North Island a little colder once again with –3.

Getting into the South Island Christchurch got to –2 degrees, inland parts of Canterbury ranged from –4 to –6 degrees so certainly cold. While it may seem typical for Central Otago to get the coldest temperatures when frosty conditions develop over New Zealand they didn’t last night due to a westerly airflow or influence if you like developing there overnight.

The warmest spot today so far is Blenheim on 16 degrees with a gentle northwesterly breeze and sunny skies.

Some high cloud is moving into Southland now ahead of the next front in the Tasman Sea, drizzle patches will also be getting into Fiordland and cloud will increase during the day along the West Coast. Expect northwesterly winds to pick up in inland areas from Canterbury down through to Southland this evening as that incoming front crunches the isobars together.
