Temp 9.8 here at the moment. It limped up to 10.9 for a brief momoent. Still not raining, but the on the radar  it looks to be not far away.

We have rain. Had to go to Oamaru today too look after twins. The roads were starting to flood. Got in there OK. Came home about 3.30 and had difficulty getting through. The Waitaki River is quite high, fast and very muddy. Had steady rain all day. Not cold though.

A mix of sunny periods and some cloud in a line from Taranaki through to the Bay of Plenty today, northwesterly breezes and showers moving through at times although dry about the Bay of Plenty and Central North Island to start. Showers becoming more widespread late afternoon possibly heavy at times in most areas then easing at night.

On the east coast expect some cloud and the odd sunny period with light winds, chance of a few showers late afternoon or evening. About the Kapiti Coast and Wellington it will remain mostly dry with some cloud during the day, showers move in from the north later in the evening about Kapiti and in Wellington later at night.

Sunny areas and some cloud on the West Coast and about Nelson today with light winds, cloud increases about Buller and Nelson late afternoon however and showers move in later in the evening. Sunny areas and some cloud in Marlborough with light winds, cloud thickens in the evening. North of Christchurch there may be the odd sunny period in the morning however cloud quickly increases with southwesterly breezes, rain develops in the evening. South of Christchurch expect easterly quarter winds, cloudy with some morning rain easing clearing in areas however developing again in the evening as easterlies freshen. Rain heavy in South Canterbury at night.

In Otago expect some rain nearer the coast, the odd drizzle patch further inland, northeasterly breezes pick up during the morning. Rain may become heavy at night about Dunedin and Oamaru. Cloudy in Southland with drizzle clearing this morning, easterly winds pick up a bit during the day, perhaps a shower at times in the far east of the district for the rest of the day. When the areas of precipitation move over expect snow to fall in the South Island today above 1100m.

16 to 17 degrees once again north of the Waikato today, mid teen temperatures in most other areas although towards the low teens in Wellington and the Central North Island.

13 to 14 degrees on the West Coast north of Hokitika, also about Nelson and Marlborough. 11 to 12 degree high’s elsewhere today in the South Island.

Over the North Island there are many cloudy areas with a little sun here and there, showers at times also some briefly heavy in Waikato, Taranaki and western parts of the Central North Island. After some cloud this morning the east coast has come out sunny with light winds although some cloud still hangs around Wairarapa.

Temperatures are around the mid teens for many places although about Taranaki, the Central North Island and Wellington it is currently between 11 to 13 degrees.

Areas of cloud on the West Coast and about Nelson today, winds are light. On the east coast there are cloudy skies and a band of rain is starting to move in after a slightly drier spell this morning, about eastern Otago showers continued this morning however. Areas of rain will be heavy at times along this band particularly in South Canterbury and coastal Otago from this evening, also the foothills of Mid and North Canterbury.

The main issue around Christchurch currently is that everything is so water logged it won’t take much rain to cause further issues even though the rain itself may not be too heavy about the city today, it will be persistent though lasting from now on through till Wednesday morning before clearing.
