Port Robinson - Midday
Cold grey overcast day here. Temperature 7.8°. Not much wind but what there is, is from the SE. Just driven up from Christchurch where it was bright and sunny although somewhat chilly. North of Amberley the cloud cover is total.

Roads Close due to Flooding Monday 23rd.
«
Reply #12 on:

Flooding has closed State Highway Two through the Karangahake Gorge as heavy rain pounds the North Island.
Authorities are not sure when the road will be reopened and a detour is in place through Kopu and Hikuai.
State Highway 26 has also been closed south of Paeroa due to flooding at Criterion Bridge.
Bay of Plenty motorists are being warned to take extreme care due to surface flooding in the region.
Heavy rain is falling on State Highway 2 between Bruce Rd and the Domain Rd intersection.
The NZ Transport Agency's Bay of Plenty state highway manager, Brett Gliddon, said motorists need to reduce their speed.
In the Coromandel, the Tairua River at Hikuai on State Highway 25 is also being monitored as levels rise however high tide has passed and water levels are not expected to affect the road over the next few hours.

Heavy rain update
«
Reply #18 on:
July 23, 2012, 06:45:24 PM »
Rain continues to fall over much of the North Island this morning. Some areas are seeing a bit of a break in the rain, but more is on the way.
Heavy rain warnings continue for the Coromandel Peninsula and western Bay of Plenty. Periods of rain are likely to persist for much of today across these areas. The heaviest should fall between now and this evening with rainfall rates approaching 15mm/hr. Government forecaster MetService feels rates to 20mm/hr are possible.
For the rest of the North Island, some heavy rain has already fallen across parts of Waikato, the Central Plateau, East Cape/Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. More heavy rain is likely this morning and this afternoon, but it's not likely to be enough to prompt additional warnings from MetService.
Rain will persist for rest of the NI as well, but heavy rain is not likely.
The far upper regions of the South Island are getting wet this morning as well. The precipitation is very light, but will likely increase as the day wears one. Heavy rain is not exepcted. The rain should move south fron Nelson and Marlborough into northern Canterbury late this afternoon. Light precipitation will then continue into tonight and could reach Christchurch by morning. It will likely not migrate much further south before heading out to sea.

A break in the rain for some
«
Reply #19 on:

Northland, Auckland, the Coromandel Peninsula and Waikato are just some of the regions to find themselves with a break in the rain.
For Northland and Auckland, the rain isn't likely to make much of a return. There could be some light showers here and there, but the heavy stuff appears to be over.
The Coromandel Peninsula and Waikato will see rain return this afternoon. Some pockets of heavy rain are possible. Rain is still falling about the Bay of Plenty through to Taranaki along with some areas of heavy rain. Heavy rain warnings remain in place for the Coromandel Peninsula along with the western Bay of Plenty and Gisborne.
WeatherWatch.co.nz Facebook readers have been sharing their rain totals with us. Here are a few:
Jorgie Bear in Kaponga- 40mm in 8 hours
Brendan Pratt in Te Puke- 31.5mm since midnight
Wendy Howard in Kaiwaka- 50.8mm in the past 24 hours
Tiffany Davies in Maxwell- 15mm
Gael Stevens in rural Tauranga- 57mm between 4pm yesterday and 7am this morning
Animated Kidz, Ltd in Hill Park, Manurewa- 20,mm in 24 hours yesterday, 3.6mm so far today
Many thanks to everyone who have shared their rainfall totals with us.
