Wet in Waitakere, rain has been falling at a pretty consistent 1 mm/hr or so since around yesterday midday - total since midnight is 9.0 mm and yesterday was 13.6 mm.
Very little change in temperature occurring, overnight low was 13.3°C, currently at 13.4°C but did get to 13.8°C during the early hours - with a high of 14°C forecast by WXSIM it may be an all time low diurnal variation recorded for my station.

Heavy rain and flooding update Monday 16th
«
Reply #9 on:
July 16, 2012, 09:53:15 AM »
Much of the North Island continues to be drenched in a continuous rainfall, some of it quite heavy. Some areas have seen rain for well over 24 straight hours. Rain has also returned to the upper South Island.
Heavy rain warnings are in effect for Taranaki, The Tararau Range, the hill country of Waitomo, southern Waikato, the eastern ranges of the Bay of Plenty and about the Central Plateau.
Generally, peak rainfall rates of 15 to 20mm/hr are expected. However, rates of 20 to 30mm/hr are possible this morning about Taranaki.
Periods of heavy rain are expected to ease by early afternoon for Taranaki. The rest of the regions under the warnings will probably see periods of heavy rain through late afternoon.
On the South Island, whilst no warnings are in effect, caution should be used about the far upper regions as any additional rainfall is likely to aggravate problems caused by yesterday's heavy rain. Heavy rain is already diminishing and should completely end by late morning.
There is a risk for heavy and thundery falls for the western South Island this afternoon and evening. Government forecaster MetService feels there is a low risk extending from Fiordland to Buller Bay. The moderate risk runs from Fiordland to southern Westland.

Still raining, still calm and still humid, I should go to bed and stay there till the bright shiny thing appears in the sky once more.

Yes very strange and very sticky.
I dressed in my nite attire as normal. Had all the normal blankets on and slowly but surely everything was thrown off.

BREAKING NEWS:
A slip has completely blocked State Highway 3 north of New Plymouth.
At 2.15pm police received a report the slip had blocked both lanes of the road about 200 metres north of the Awakino Hotel.
Police said the highway would be ''closed for a while''.
A worker at the Awakino Hotel said it appeared the slip was about 60 metres long and 40m wide and up to 2.5 metres deep.
She said excavation crews were at the scene already.

A wet day here in Waitakere, rain has been consistent at around 1 mm/hr to 2 mm/hr for most of the day - save for a heavy shower around 11.15 am which reached about 30 mm/hr. Total for the day so far is 16.8 mm and climbing...
Current temperature is 12.8°C - has got up to 14.6°C and the lowest so far is 12.6°C at 3.40 pm so our diurnal range is just 2°C at the moment...
(my record low diurnal range is 2.8°C...)
