Excel 2003 Crashes

I came across a very peculiar problem today which may be irrelevant but could be of interest to some.
The add ins such as Euro Tools and Analysis tools, suddenly started crashing Excel and had to be disabled. This coincided with an alteration by Microsoft to its automatic update requirements, after updating their update tool, Excel returned to normal and functioned correctly with all Add Ins re- enabled and functioning correctly .
