All my graphs have not updated since 17:30 last night. At that time I had opened the detailed rain chart and forgot to close it. I restarted WD just after 9am this morning but graphs still showing 17:30 last night. Rainfall total showing for today is in fact yesterdays rainfall total so the 9am change over has not happened. Not sure what is the best way to fix this without losing all the valuable rainfall data I have collected. We had so much rainfall in the last 48 hours!!

Just looked at the log files and found that records stop at 17:13 and restart at 9:22 this morinng. I am guessing therefore that the data has not downloaded from the WMR200 into the logfile. I just tried getting the data by restarting WD and telling it to look for data from yesterday without success.

Choc-a-holic - try going to Action - Convert Logfile into Datafile (graphs), and also update last 30 days graphs. That might cure it as I'm sure the data was still being logged in the ASCII script logfile and needs to be updated into the datafile. However, you may have an overlap of data from time you restarted the graphing. There are ways to fix it. Brian may login and see your plight too. I have noticed that editing in graph mode - colours position on page etc, that the data may not transfer to the digital datalogfile while this is happening.

The graphs are now updating, however there is a big gap between 17:13 last night and 09:22 this morning where the data is missing from the log files. I cannot see that converting the log files to graph would help given that the data is not in the logfiles. I took a copy of the logfiles and looked inside and there is no data. It would seem that having the detailed rain chart open stopped the log files updating....not sure if that is even possible but that looks like the cause of the problem at this stage

When the data downloads from the WMR200 does it go to another file before it reaches the logfile? I am hoping that the data is not lost.

I have a manual rainfall gauge so I took the reading but have not fixed the totals until I explore all other avenues to fixing this problem.

I don't know how much is in the WMR database and it will roll over at some stage. So if the logfile has empty space - missing entries, that is not good. But if you try and contact Brian Hamilton directly he may be able to help you before the WMR history data is overwritten - if it keeps such.

IE copy corrupt June logfile to somewhere else, master file now gets edited and clean out everything from restart, and then load back in from WMR from missing data start point using Datalogger function in WD where you setup a new start point in the past.

Then do the Convert logfile to data/graph file. etc.

not sure why the data would stop updating when the detailed rain chart is left open
I will test that here
re the wmr200 history data, it only stores data to be downloaded to a pc when there is no software accessing it
since there was, there was no history data to download (unlike other station types that have history logging)

So what you are saying is that there is no way to get that data now?

The 9am rollover did not happen .... so the rainfall total is a combination of yesterdays and todays totals and given that I have a manual rainfall total and the current total is missing rainfall data for about 16 hours should I update the rainfall manually to get the problem sorted? The current yesterdays total is in fact the day befores rainfall total - so a real mess really.

I am not sure if it was the detailed rain chart was the cause....seems a little strange....could be a coincidence. I opened it by right clicking on rainfall section and choosing rain last 7 days then detailed rain chart.

I was not able to duplicate the logfile not updating here by leaving the detailed rain chart open

yes you can manualy add/edit the rainfall totals

do you have Wunderground data being updated by WD?
if so, was that updated?
if so then that is a source of the missing data

was there any live data though during this flat line period?

Everything stopped at 17:13. This morning I noted that nothing had updated on the website so went and looked at the PC running WD...the detailed rain chart was open. I closed everything and restarted WD and everything started again. I did not wait to see if data started flowing again after closing the detailed rain chart unfortunately.

I don't have Wunderground setup.

The graphs stopped at 17:13 and so did the data in the logfiles...and the restart did not find any of the missing data so it must have been downloaded by WD but not recorded anywhere....really strange!

I have manually updated all the rainfall totals so they are all looking good now. Unfortunately the lack of rollover at 9am this morning has meant that I now have a monthly and yearly record for rainfall in 1 day which needs to be fixed....hmmm is there any easy way to find out what the yearly record should have been?

I would have looked in the detailed rain chart but it has not been updating on a regular basis to the point I have almost given up on it completely.

What specs PC and is it dedicated to WMR200 and WD and webcam only? If webcam as well, is WDwebcamcapture driving the webcam? Or another software package? Do you have a Boltek Lightning Detector?

was the separate wmr200 program running?
was there any errors under view , program event log, in WD?

its hard to offer help when there is not alot of detailed info on exactly was and was not working at the time

you can add in the missing data around the 9am reset time to the logfile then convert the logfile to data file to fix up the reports

Unfortunately I did not look for the seperate WMR200 program before shutting WD down.

I did not check for errors in the program event log - to be honest I had not noticed this option before so was not aware of it. Does it get cleared each time WD is shutdown? There is nothing showing in th event log at present.

I guess we will have to wait and see if I can recreate the problem. If there is a next time (and I hope there isn't) I will check the program event log and everything else before restarting.

The daily backup did not happen at 7:55 this morning so I am assuming that WD was not functioning properly at all. I just jumped onto my website and took a copy of the backup which happened on the morning of the 18th ....hoping I might get the correct rainfall records from there.

The laptop that runs WD at present is an old Pentium M 1.8ghz with 1.GB ram. It is only used by WD and my accounting package which was not in use at the time. There is no webcam at present...waiting for a new cable to arrive as I hope to get my old camera going again. I don't have a lightening detector. We would be lucky to get 2 lightening storms a year (had a very small one last night ... Nelson had an awesome one but we missed out).

Thank you for your help...it is much appreciated. It looks like the cause will not be found and all I need to do now is fix the records and everything is then sorted.

Choc-a-holic - it may pay to update WD as in the last 6 months or so, some end of day routines were split further apart and saved some issues with lost data and end of month routines similarly. I know the old adage - if it ain't broke then don't fix it. But WD often needs to be on a good performance machine with 2GB ram. If you can update the ram it would be good. The fact you just had an outage or an incident, means that something is at the limit somewhere.

I hope you can give it a bit more legroom and perservere!

I recently updated to 10.37R build 26 - it would have been only 2 months ago - I see we are at build 31 now...is it worth udpating?

I won't be upgrading the laptop...it is very old, the screen is stuffed (luckily I had spare LCD screen) and it is not worth spending any money on it. My main PC died recently as you know and my priority will be to replace that....just trying to work out what I should replace it with...may even wait a month or two longer as Windows 8 is shipping later in the year.

Lets just hope it won't happen again.

WD has functioned on my Compaq Pentium800 with 764mb of memory throughout all its various incarnations. The secret is to not to run other software on it at the same time. You can buy S/H boxes with two or three 256mb strips and working copy of XP quite cheap. You only need a monitor to set it up and then you can control it through remote software like Teamviewer (as long as it's connected to a home network or the internet). That's how mine is set up. The older machines are a bit cheaper to run as well. My compaq uses about 300w.

Yes, I think an old laptop with only 1GB ram can get stretched especially at top of minutes and the hour etc for file updating and FTP data gathering, graph crunching etc so an out of the ordinary peek at extra pages or graph setups can block or lock the cpu as it loses sight of thread and memory flags etc when resources get maxed out. I would worry trying to defrag any WD computer, huge and fast or otherwise!! I found our local Noel leemings would offer JB HiFi prices on the same laptop/PC if it was the same model. I got $400 off the $1600 laptop I bought!

sounds like it could have been a resource issue then , for WD , on the old PC
and so that is why WD locked up->did not update, or similar
if the separate program was still running and getting data from the wmr200, then that meant the wmr200 was not building any history data to download later on restart of WD

I run WD on a dedicated HP Atom netbook, ie low spec, but I added more Ram, and removed all the HP bloatware
runs great for what I need
