Windows 8 'release preview' coming in June
« on: April 26, 2012, 09:43:15 PM »
Microsoft will release a near-final version of its Windows 8 operating system in the first week of June, the president of Microsoft’s Windows division, Steve Sinofsky, has told a developer event in Japan.

The ‘release preview’ will most likely be the final release before public availability, following the developer preview in September and the consumer preview last month.

Microsoft hasn’t announced a release date for Windows 8, but if the release preview goes well it could be sooner rather than later.

An attempt to create a unified operating system for PCs and tablets, Windows 8 will be pivotal for keeping Microsoft competitive with the likes of Apple and Google.

The ‘release preview’ will be the best indication we’ve had as to what the final product will look like and how it will work.

Thanks for that article and link.

Will be interesting to see what eventuates with the interface.

I downloaded the earlier release, last year and then the current release (whatever they call it...to my way of thinking  it was a Beta).

From the desktop user vantage I found it just awful. The earlier release was better, in that regard because you could make it  run it like a traditional Windows desktop GUI, if you wanted.

It will be interesting to see what Microsoft comes up with, in the end, that is for sure.

My understanding is that the user will be able to choose which GUI they use, Windows 7 or Metro.

Learnt something new today in Windows 7.  In Windows XP & Vista if you moved a folder that you accessed via a desktop or folder shortcut it broke the shortcut, not in Windows 7, it somehow updates the Shortcut but only on the Computer that iniated the Folder Move.  Don't you just love Computing.

Learnt something else too!  As above, if you rename a folder in Windows 7 the link does not break like in XP or Vista.  Woohoo Windows 7.
