Energy Advanced Meter
« on: March 28, 2012, 09:52:09 AM »
Last year Genesis decided to contact us regarding installing a Energy Advanced Smart meter to meter our power consumption.

The technician arrived only to discover that the Vodafone coverage up here in the hill-top is flaky at its best and the meter couldnt be installed.. The info from the meter is transmitted to genesis through Vodafone.

You have to hold your cell phone up in the air and point it south to send a text message or sit on the end of our bed and then lean in a certain direction to make or receive phone call via your cell phone.

We thought that was the end of it. Then 6 months later another lettter outlining the same info arrived but no technician arrried.

Two days ago we get another letter from Genesis telling us that they will be installing the smart meter between 2 April and 11 of May. So Ross rings them and goes through the same rigamrole telling them that the coverage up here is practically non-existant.

Oh they say will give you a number to ring, so he goes once more through the same rigamrole and this time they give him a date in May for when the technician will be at our place.

An hour later the phone rings to say they will be here on the 7th of May, Ross rings them back and tells them that they have already rung us!!!

So we will wait with bated breath on the 7th of May to find out whether or not Vodafone has increased their signal up here, which we both find unlikely, and to see if once again the meter can or cannot be installed.

This part of the Western hills in Wellington has very weak signals from Vodafone even though we have rung them and laid several complaints regarding the weak signal. One person told us to switch to Telecom!!!
