Snow is blanketing parts of the South Island, with places like Glenorchy, Mt Cook and Tekapo receiving a fresh dumping of the white stuff.
South Islanders woke to picturesque winter scenes as a day of snow kicked off on Wednesday morning.
And as the "significant snow event" continues, snow flurries down to sea level in Dunedin and Christchurch are on the cards, with even a dusting possible on the capital's hilltop suburbs.
The low-pressure system has so far brought snow to high parts of the South Island and central North Island, and rain across the rest of the country.
MetService has issued heavy snow warnings, with the heaviest snow expected about inland parts of Southland, Otago and South Canterbury south of Fairlie.
Up to 30 centimetres is expected above 400 metres.

Snow has already covered Glenorchy near Queenstown with about 5cm falling between 7am and 10am.
MetService meteorologist Claire Flynn said temperatures at lake-level in Queenstown were still slightly too warm for snow but that was expected to change later in the day.
