Forecast in Brief for Thursday 9th July 2015

Northland and Auckland
A few showers, clearing in Auckland this evening.

Waikato to Taumarunui, also Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo
A few showers about the west coast, otherwise fine with morning frosts.

Southern half of the North Island, also Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Coastal Marlborough, and Canterbury
Sleety showers, some heavy with small hail. Snow to 100 to 200 metres, affecting many higher roads, lifting slightly later in the day. Possible thunderstorms about the the coast from Gisborne to Wairarapa this afternoon and evening.

Inland Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Westland and northern Fiordland
Fine, with severe frosts.

Southern Fiordland, Southland and Otago
Few showers, falling as snow above 400 metres, becoming confined to eastern Otago late tomorrow.

Chatham Islands
Sleet showers turning to snow for a time today, with thunderstorms and hail.
