Showers, some heavy and thundery with hail, easing and becoming isolated this afternoon.

Gisborne to Wairarapa
Showers retreating to the coast this morning, some heavy and possibly thundery.

Waitomo to Manawatu, including the central high country
Showers, some possibly squally and thundery with hail, and snow to 900 metres about Taihape, easing this morning.

Wellington, Kapiti
Showers, possibly heavy with hail, clearing during the day.

Marlborough, Canterbury
Showers, possibly thundery with hail. Snow to 100 metres, and possibly to near sea level about Banks Peninsula and Christchurch. Showers then retreating to Banks Peninsula by midday.

Nelson, Buller, Westland
A few showers in Buller, otherwise fine.

Otago, Southland, Fiordland
Showers or snow, some thundery with hail. Significant snow accumulations above 200 metres. Showers becoming mostly confined to Southland and Dunedin during the day, and snow level lifting.

Chatham Islands
Outbreaks of rain, some heavy and thundery falls. Southwest gales may become severe this evening.
