Showers clearing early this morning, leaving areas of light rain or drizzle becoming confined to the ranges later this morning. Some afternoon fine spells, except in Waitomo and Taumarunui where occasional light rain persists until evening.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay
Mainly fine, showers about the ranges.

Taranaki and Taihape to Wellington, also Wairarapa
Occasional rain, clearing this evening.

Marlborough, Nelson and Buller
Occasional rain at first, with some heavy falls in western Nelson, then fine spells.Showers developing this afternoon, mainly about the ranges, some heavy and possibly thundery.

The remainder of the South Island
Scattered rain clearing this morning. Showers developing this afternoon, mainly inland, with isolated thunderstorms and possible downpours about the Canterbury High country and Otago ranges.

Chatham Islands
