OUTBREAKS OF HEAVY RAIN FOR NORTHERN HALF OF THE NORTH ISLAND AND WESTERN NELSON
A humid northeast flow covers the North Island. A front lying over the upper North Island is expected to move slowly southeast today ( Thursday) preceded by a broad area of rain. The heaviest falls are expected about the Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and northern Gisborne, and a warning is in force.
Outbreaks of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms are expected about Auckland this morning, easing in the afternoon. A Watch will be maintained for the possibility of some places approaching short duration warning criteria (more than 50mm in 6 hours) until this afternoon. Note: Isolated showers are still likely about the Auckland Region during the afternoon and early evening, few possibly heavy and thundery.
Outbreaks of heavy rain are expected about Mt Taranaki this morning and afternoon. A Watch will be maintained for the possibility of rainfall amounts approaching warning criteria, however, likely limited to the higher slopes of the Mountain.
Rain is expected to become heavier about western Nelson this afternoon, with possible thunderstorms, easing tonight. The Watch will also be maintained for this area.
