A low lying east of the North Island on Tuesday is expected to move slowly away east on Wednesday, allowing the rain about the North Island s east coast to slowly ease. However, there is still a moderate confidence that rain may approach warning amounts about the ranges north of Wairoa on Wednesday, before the rain clears later that night.

Meanwhile, a low and associated trough are expected to reach the lower South Island on Wednesday, then move northeast over the country on Thursday. This this low is expected to bring a period of rain to many places as it moves northeastward, but no significant accumulations are expected at this stage.
