Forum Station Summaries – I need some feedback please.

This post refers to the Daily Summaries I post each day and each month summarising our Stations High and Low extremes.
http://www.localweather.net.nz/smf/daily-weather-updates/**daily-summaries**-for-january-2013/
As most of you know, Beteljuice has made a script to collect your data come midnight each night from your clientraw.txt or realtime.txt. From there it is transferred into a spreadsheet I have made using pivot tables where it is checked, altered and added to. Some stations are closed down for the night, some stations do not use WD or Cumulus. Hence there is a fair amount of work to be done prior to the pivot table being ready for summarising and does take a fairly large chunk out of my day. No one ever says anything so I really have no idea whether I am wasting my time or not so I am asking
What do you want to see???
Sure we have the daily summaries but there is heaps I can do but I don’t know what would be of interest. In heavy rain I list the stations and their rainfall total. When there is hot or cold days across NZ I list the stations and their temps.
I can do this with the Gust, wind speed, wind run, barometer high and lows, temp high and lows, temp averages, rainfall, rain days.
Would just the High and Low temps be of more interest each day with maybe a weekly or monthly summary?
I could even post this each day, a raw copy of the data collection once I have finished editing.
http://wairoaweather.net/weathernz/summary2013/yesterday28-1-2013.htm
This is yesterdays the 28th of January. Would this interest any one? (Sorry Suezy, I had already made this before you added your data on the forum.)
What I want feedback on is what interests you.
Do you read the summary each day?
If not what would you read? What sort of summary is of interest to you? What do do you think would be the most beneficial/interesting to the forum members and visitors?
Basically I want to know where would my time be best spent other than watching tennis:) so have a think on this for me please.
Cheers

I for one appreciate the loads of time you & the other admins/mods put in to make this a place to visit because I want to.
I scan the summary often to see who has had what.
Is the data used by the Mesomap stored? or just rotated.
Just wondering if that could be used for generating some of the data you require.
Possibly automated to give summary or hi-low readings.
I can't say what others what, but I like what is there( if it can be created easily)

Yep - I wanted to say a big thanks to JL for all the work she does in putting this all together (and the Beteljuice for the scripting!). It is a huge effort and a big comittment to do every day.
I'd encourage everyone to provide your feedback in this thread. There is alot of data available, and it is important that if the work is being done, then something that is useful is produced. Now's your chance to have your say!

The Map script is designed to pick up the current conditions as at now from your ( in your case ) clientraw.txt file. For example, the temp right now, the wind speed right now, the baro right now etc
The Extremes script is designed to run just before midnight and it pick up your Highest Temp for today. Lowest temp for today, highest gust for today, highest and lowest baro for today and hence give me todays highs and lows. That link above shows you the output once I have finished with it. This is what the summaries are done from.
Alas the two scripts are doing different chores. That said all that data has to go some where and thats where my spreadsheet comes in and the use of pivot tables. The pivot tables allow me to produce what you guys want and hence that is what I am trying to find out
Thanks for help so far

The only thing the beteljuice would suggest would give you more work !
That is because of the North / South divide both geographically and weatherwise, it would make more sense if they were seperate tables too.
Sorry ....

go away....lol
Guess you better start on Version 4 then
Actually I dont altogether think that is true. The only one that stands out is the baro. Usually the top of the NI has the highest and the bottom of the SI has the lowest.
However temps for the last 2 months have been much the same.
Rain has been much the same except for Arthur's Pass who has a hose running above his.
and wind, like wise.
Look at the high temps for yesterday. Central NI, Lower NI, Upper SI. The south Island have been pulling the highest temps over the NI repeatedly last couple of months. This month is panning out pretty even.
Lowest Temp yesterday: Central NI, East Coast NI, Upper SI, West Coast SI.
Highest Gusts yesterday: Upper NI, Lower NI, Upper SI, Mid SI.
Calmest places: Mid NI downwards all much the same.
Here is yesterday 80% edited Data:
http://wairoaweather.net/weathernz/summary2013/yesterday29-1-2013.htm
How does everyone else feel regarding this.
Hopefully I am talking my way out of this extra work...lol

How on earth did you know how to spell that!!!!!
Beteljuice you may suggest whatever you wish.
Without you I would not have had that knowledge nor would I have been able to put up such a brilliant argument having the prosecution running for cover

sorry to the late reply...just back from holiday.
i read the daily summaries every day, but I would quite like more data.
the table you posted for the 28th is ideal. i would like to see that every day, but like beteljuice, i like to see neighbours next to neighbours.
obviously alphabetical is easiest, but i would like it grouped gepographically.
is that possible?
as I also pour over the monthly summaries you produce, shorter period summaries of that ilk would be great too.
all i am doing is asking for you to spend more time jenny....but since you asked....

Maybe weekly summaries then?
But just the summary. Those monthly summaries with full data as with Rainfall. rain days etc all laid out for all stations take me 3 days around work and family. But the straight summary like the daily one is not too bad. So we could try doing a weekly one if you like. I will play with spreadsheet and see how easy I can make it for me.
Cheers and thanks for ideas
