It has been a very nice start to the Olympics with the only complaint about the weather being a bit hot and humid for soccer. Locally we have had no rain since the 17th and it is 27 in the shade, so the fish and frogs are very happy and most of the garden loves it.
There is very little indication of what the weather is going to do, but at least it doesn't look like the Olympics will be a washout. It would have been awful if the rain had continued and spoiled all of the plans.

and again I refer to what about it was going to rain until september?
I said at the time that was just a news grabbing head line, as I cant see how a forecast that it was going to keep on raining every day for another 2 months could hold much water
weather patterns do eventualy change, and sometimes suddenly
good that you are getting good weather finally!

Hi Rob,
Yep we are all ready in this house for the Games. I have had family just return from the UK and I am surrounded in Olympic bits and pieces. Pens, pads, wrist bands, flags, hats, teeshirts but best of all The Official Programme which is a massive book. Right in the middle of this book is Nadal
So yep all ready to go and lets hope that weather remains kind.
Cheers
Jenny.

It is simply wrong to pronounce judgement on a season until it is actually over! Sensationalism has no place alongside science and logic. Newspapers (among other media) will do anything to sell copy.

I guess you need to email and ask this media source that Mark posted on the 8th of July
http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/331299/It-will-rain-til-September
Yep as Rupert says, the media will always dramatise to sell a story.

But no one can say what the weather is going to be like.(over a month)
Know one has ever got it spot on.
Know one can say what the max temp here in Canterbury in August will be.

you do have a point though Tokww
e.g for a seasonal foreast
i.e 3 month trend
the forecast (e.g NIWA) might be for above average condtions
but you might end up with one of the months being a bit below average but the other 2 months being well above average
and so the average over the 3 months is above average
sort of thing...

Well, the hot and humid weather didn't last long. We are now back to cool, with thunderstorms and showers, but at least they are showers, even though we had hailstones yesterday that tried to punch holes in the fig leaves.
I don't think that any of the forecasters have much idea of what is going to happen much further into the future than two days, but at least the days are different, we do have sunshine intermittently and it's not too hot to sleep, so not much to complain about really
One of the Olympic teams had brightly coloured Wellingtons and Umbrellas as part of their outfit, which I thought was hilarious, totally in keeping with the spirit of things, and a good start to the games, which I hope brings smiles to everyone.
