Showers for parched Perth

Parched Perth will receive a few showers following the driest start to July in almost a century.

Perth has only recorded rain on six days so far this month, well below the average of 17. The first 20 days of the month only saw 28mm of rain, the lowest for this period since 1918 and well below the monthly average of 170mm.

Today and tomorrow, the seemingly unfamiliar sight of showers will return to the city.

Showers will develop along the west coast of WA on today as a trough of low pressure moves over the region, ahead of an approaching cold front. However, this may bring no more than cloudy skies to the city.

Looking into the new week, Perth's rain gauge stands far less a chance of staying dry on Monday. The arrival a cold front will bring around 2-5mm of rain.

Looking further ahead, the rest of the week should see a return of the dry and mostly sunny conditions that the city has become used to this month.
