Fairly cold in Waitakere, temperature is 2.8°C currently - was a bit less at 2.6°C an hour ago. Outside the sky is nice and clear, stars and planets appear bright and sharp. Will be brisk out at the beach when we go.

Great clear morning in Tokoroa, overnight low -1.7 currently 1.1. Good ground frost, no wind, and the birdies are singing in the trees.

Clear blue sky in Waitakere now, sunny as it can be - getting quite warm inside now with the sun streaming through our big windows, no need for heaters to be on now. Outside though, there is still a definite crispness to the air at the moment with it being just 7.7°C
Was very cold at the beach at 7.30 am, frosts in the paddocks on the way down the valley - wind chill on the ears wasn't pleasant. Even the dog didn't spend too much time in the water today, but she still went in...

well I was wrong about the onshore wind keeping things warmer on the coast here
that died
and so we ended up with a light frost, 3.2C minimum

A great winter's day here in Waitakere, truly they don't get a great deal better than this - all day sun, reaching a maximum of 13.1°C from our low of 2.6°C. It's dropped to 6.3°C and expecting to stay clear tonight so I'm picking a pretty cold night is on the cards.

Look for a dry and settled day today, unless you happen to be in the far east or deep south.
Sunshine will be the rule for most of New Zealand today. However, Wairarapa, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne could all see a few showers today. Coastal sections of Southland and Otago could also see a few showers. Even though the chances are pretty small, there is still the threat for a rogue shower or two.
Daytime highs should reach the lower to middle teens for most of New Zealand. The deep south will likely be a bit cooler with highs struggling to break into the double digits.
All of this settled weather is courtesy of a big area of high pressure that will continue to dominate our weather for the next few days.
