New Plymouth: 16.6 degrees (airport) NW wind, sun is out, lots of cloud, couple of light showers .
We are supposed to have massive rain according to met service but I note the computer models have dropped down the total amount by a large margin, since last night. NW wind doesn't bring much in the way of moisture

0930 Whitmore Park, Napier
Fine with high cloud in Napier this morning, with some hazy (but welcome) sunshine. Light NNW breeze, and 14.6 C. Very rough out at sea, with 20 - 30 knot wind and 2 - 3 metre swells. Rain forecast to spread east to the coast this afternoon/evening...sigh!

We got 7.5mm since midnight, when some showers began. For the 24 hrs to midnight, yesterday, 6.5mm fell in New Plymouth, 11.4mm at the airport.
Predictions say circa 40mm from now til 6pm, which isn't worth a warning, even if it eventuates.
Currently 15.5 degrees, cloudy, humid, dry.

why all the negative stuff?
the rain totals will be higher inland
and there is more to come yet, the whole frontal system is slow moving
there has been heavy fall in the Waitomo area
instead of reading people moaning about forecasts, I would much rather come on to this forum and read factual informaiton about current conditions/rain totals
and then people can make up their own minds in how that relates to the current and forecasted conditions etc
just my opinion
(its a bit like reading SW gales posts)

Well, I couldn't agree more, Weather Display. Which is why I quoted the figures. For the past two or three years, Met Service has appeared to have over predicted possible rain for us here. Plus they have failed to distinguish between the mountain and the province.
I am not moaning: simply stating an irritation: forecasts are just that, forecasts. But there seems to be an urge to over state what might happen, in order to take in every possibility. Then the media sexes the prediction up and lo and behold, the world is at an end! LOL
It would be better if the forecaster stated that (for example): " there is a strong possibility of this event, if wind direction is N or NE but if winds remain in the NW quarter, totals will be significantly less."

from stuff.co.nz, there has been totals of 75mm in the Waitomo area already, and its still raining there
ie not far north of you
there is alot more rain bands still to come
the rain radar also shows a line of heavy rain passing just of you as well, clipping south taranaki
i.e you are in between 2 frontal zones, just the way it has worked out
(the models are not accurate enough to pin point that exact situation )
