Weather In Spain2023 and up
«
on:
April 30, 2023, 09:42:48 AM »
According to the recent weather forecast for Spain and Portugal, temperatures will widely push into the mid to upper 30s, possibly very close to +40 °C (104 °F) in southern Spain at the end of April. And around 35 °C in southern Portugal. The first intense heatwave of 2023 will challenge the all-time heat records for both countries.
For many European places, April has been more dynamic and cooler than March, but Spain has been something else, literally the opposite. So after a very warm March and April, most of the Iberian peninsula is also very dry.
With the driest March in twenty years, drought conditions are already strengthening, and wildfires have also been reported. Pretty early in spring, which may hint summer will be extreme.

Torrential rain in the upper Guadalhorce area of Malaga province has left dozens of houses and schools flooded in Álora and Pizarra this Tuesday morning. The downpours have also caused several cars parked near the river to wash away and float downstream.
It comes as 100mm of rain was dumped on the upper Guadalhorce during the early hours of this Tuesday morning, according to the Junta de Andalucía's Hidrosur network, with rain continuing throughout the morning.

Murcia's Record Lows

Murcia, a region of southeastern Spain, has experienced a striking drop in temperatures, marking an icy start to winter.
Los Royos in Caravaca de la Cruz has logged -3.5C (25.7F), Yecla saw -2.9C (26.8F) with Jumilla at -2.1C (28.2F). The coldest spot, La Junquera, plummeted to a record -9.7C (14.5F). And even coastal Cartagena wasn’t spared, seeing temps of 4C (39.2F).
Frosty rooftops and frozen fields now define the usually mild region, catching many off guard

Spanish holiday hotspot is flooded by river of ICE after hail storm as torrentia

This is the shocking moment a popular holiday hotspot in Spain is left severely flooded by a river of ice.
Devastating footage shows the swamped streets of a town in Costa Blanca after a hail storm and days of torrential rain left cars trapped in deep waters.
Concerned tourists and residents of Santa Pola were forced to stay inside as they watched on as the weather took a nasty turn this week.
A massive hail storm ended up mixing with heavy rain before it created a terrifying number of icebergs travelling down the street.
The neighbouring town of Rojales was also battered by the weather as a yellow alert was issued across Alicante.
Pictures show how cars were left fighting to make it past flood water which in some areas had managed to make it to the height of the wheels.

Freak hailstorm turns streets white in Malaga, Spain
«

Although the episode of rain and storms in Malaga seems to be coming to an end for now, this last day of rainfall has left an afternoon of thunderstorms and hail in several parts of the province. The most significant hailstorm so far was Alhaurín el Grande early this Tuesday afternoon.
The storm has left striking images of streets covered in a layer of white and hail hitting cars. Social media has been filled with messages from local residents shocked by the unexpected hail. Although the image in Alhaurín el Grande has been unprecedented, hail has reached other parts of the province and also the city, in areas such as Campanillas, Puerto de la Torre or Teatinos.
National weather agency Aemet has extended the yellow warning for heavy rain and hail to include Malaga city and Guadalhorce for accumulated rainfall of up to 15 mm per hour this Tuesday evening.

Heavy Spring Snow Hits Northern Spain
«

Baqueira Beret ski resort in Catalonia, northern Spain was hit with a surprise 40 cm (16 inches) of snow just days before Easter.
The snow was completely unforecasted.
Resort managers said “not even the most optimistic forecasts” saw it coming — a rare event this deep into spring.
Despite closing, Baqueira reopened this week with 54 runs and 28 lifts in operation. If conditions hold, more could be open across Baqueira, Beret, and Bonaigua.
Masella, in the Catalan Pyrenees, has extend its season to April 27 following the fresh snow. From the 2,535-meter (8,317-foot) Tosa peak down to the 1,600-meter (5,250-foot) base, the entire resort remains open.

Severe storm drops more than 60 liters of rain per square meter in less "Spain

Granada's western region experienced a Friday afternoon marked by a brief yet intense downpour. A storm descended heavily on the municipality of Íllora in less than an hour, leaving up to 60 liters per square meter and triggering a yellow warning from the Aemet (National Meteorological Agency ). The heavy downpour caused at least fifteen incidents, according to 112 Andalucía, mainly due to flooding in homes, garages, and streets that were completely submerged.
Several residents experienced flooding in their homes and businesses, forcing them to act quickly to prevent further damage. Granada Fire Department crews and municipal workers responded to the area to pump out the water and clear the mud from the roads.
The heavy downpour also disrupted traffic on several roads. The A-336, which connects Íllora with Pinos Puente, and the GR-4403, which leads to Puerto Lope, had to be temporarily closed due to accumulated water. In addition, the emergency services warned of problems in other parts of the West, such as the A-4154 as it passes through Montefrío and Algarinejo, recommending drivers exercise caution due to the presence of puddles on the road.

Heavy Snow Hits Azerbaijan
«

Heavy snow continues across Azerbaijan, with the deepest accumulation Monday reported in Shahbuz at 37 cm (14.6 inches).
Other high-elevation regions are also seeing substantial totals. Kishchay (Shaki) measured 33 cm (13 inches), Alibay (Zaqatala) 25 cm (9.8 inches), and Khinalig and Griz saw 24 cm (9.4 inches).
The broader pattern extends beyond the Caucasus. Kazakhstan and other parts of Central Asia have also been hit by repeated winter systems in recent weeks, reinforcing regional snowpack.
That accumulation is feeding into the bigger picture.
Northern Hemisphere snow mass is currently tracking above the 1982–2012 average.
With totals approaching 3,100 gigatons, according to GlobSnow data, mass is now riding some 300 gigatons above the norm.
Late-season snow across Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Siberia, and parts of North America is helping keep hemispheric snow mass elevated as the seasonal peak approaches.
