CURRENT STATUS OF CYCLONE Donna's ACTIVITY
At midday on Tuesday 9th May (New Zealand time), Tropical Cyclone
Donna (central pressure of 963hPa, Category 3) was located near 19.0S
166.2E, about 260km southwest of Port Vila, Vanuatu or 330km north of
Noumea, New Caledonia, moving southeast at 11km/h. It is expected to
continue tracking southeast, remaining to the west of Vanuatu,passing
close to New Caledonia on Wednesday. It should move southeast away
from New Caledonia on Thursday.
In the last couple of hours Severe Cyclone Donna has moved a little
further east, helping spare some of the Loyalty Islands just east of New
Caledonia's mainland.
The Loyalty Islands are 100kms away from the mainland and are home
to about 18,000 people.
Donna has weakened today and is likely to fall another Category overnight
into Wednesday morning but will remain a dangerous storm all week.
